Analyst: Underwhelming 360 Sales May Force Price Cuts
Posted by XanTium | May 16 16:08 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamedaily.com:
[QUOTE]
In the wake of the April video game sales data, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich commented on what was admittedly even a surprise to NPD analyst Anita Frazier - that the hardware sales for both Xbox 360 and PS3 failed to reach 200K units during a month in which GTA IV was supposed to have driven console sales.

"This would...be the first time that Xbox 360 sales dipped below 200K since July 2007, which ended up resulting in an Xbox 360 price drop the following month (August 2007). It wouldn't be wrong to assume that Microsoft might follow a similar strategy as last year given that the Xbox 360 has dropped below the 50,000 units a week sold threshold mark," remarked Divnich.

In looking at the sales figures, all console sales numbers had dropped significantly and my first thought was the economy. I don't know that dropping the price will help any and as much as I would like to buy a second 360, my discretionary spending is going towards the necessities, specifically gas.

reason why grand theft auto didn't drive this month is because it came out at the end of the month. Only hardcore people who bought gta on the day it came out I'm sure already had a 360. Wait until we get May's figures.

Most businesses use a fiscal calendar to determine financial information. For most companies, the fiscal month of April ended on the 24th, GTA4 went on sale on the 29th. You would think that an analysis would realize the difference.. ....but then again an analysis doesn't actually have a real job.

I don't see how Microsoft can cut the price any further as the game sales must be suffering. People having less money means they probably wont want to buy as many games, which is how Microsoft makes most of their money.

No. Most analysts would see that the NPD April numbers cover 5 days that had GTA 4 out.

More proof that oil companies rule the world... where's a superhero when you need one??

Bring on the hydrogen fuel cells or whatever (and integrate a 360 just to stay on topic) and pull the rug out from under the oil companies feet. BAAHHHH!!!!
