Xbox 360 Fails To Sell In India?
Posted by XanTium | May 19 23:53 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From contentsutra.com:
[QUOTE]
As far as India is concerned, the xBox is the x'ed Box, if this report from CNBC-TV18 is to be believed. The console has apparently been such a dismal failure in India that Microsoft is reportedly winding up operations in several Tier-I cities. MS' Entertainment & Devices Division (EDD) has also withdrawn the marketing budget for India, and Ashim Mathur, Marketing Head for the division has planned to leave the company. Mathur has denied any such development, and the company has, expectedly, given CNBC-TV18 a standard response, that everything is going according to plan.

There is a ridiculous amount of people in India, they probably figured even if it didn't sell well, it would still sell.

I suspect they were intending to sell millions of consoles to Indias 'Nouveau Riche' without realising those people only represent a very small part of Indias *huge* population.
Idiots. uhh.gif

^^Actually no. Middle class to rich people make a lot of the population, those who can afford the console. There is money to be spent but they have not chosen to spend it on the 360. It's like Japan. The playstation is more popular in India and also, India is not known as a gaming country.

Sad to know But Yes Live is here in India.Thing is that Microsoft sells the console at a high price and also very few people are intrested in spending such money at a gaming console
Second is the grey market which sells the concole almost $100 to $200 cheaper that the Official price of Microsoft. In addition they give you the modded console and games on a price of buying an icecream.
These consoles are being brought from some other countries.
Even law does not enforce on these sellers

But Yes biggrin.gif I can say that there are plenty of young generation including who love xbox 360 and the games and its online aspect

BTW: biggrin.gif I have many few friends online my gamertag is tosrock.

Why does it seem that the most pirated console ends up being the winner in every generation? Look at the PSOne, PS2 and now the Wii......

Well, I think it's really about customer service, cos I sure if an Indian has to call support, they end up talking to an American or Canadian that speak perfect english. unsure.gif

The Wii is pirated easily cos it's just two GameCubes duct taped together, but do you have actual numbers on the amount of pirated consoles? Of those I know, they have their original XBOX hacked (to use for media server), but not the PS2 or GCN..

My train of thought has derailed, I have no idea where I was going with this. uhh.gif

I think it's hard to be honest when the financials are heavily unbalanced like that.

Are there any numbers for what consoles actually are selling well in India?

MS is nuts if they sell the console at a premium over there, it should be being sold at the lowest price it is available to any country, that at least stops the grey market imports killing you.
Then they could work with bollywood to try and create a games industry over there, and get some local content.

MS seems to struggle outside of the US.

Here in Australia, Im taking a guess that the 360 is at least 2:1 on the PS3. The PS3 launched a year later, but the 360 is still selling heaps better from what i know. I know of a few people that have them, but so many more with a 360. Some people just have a PS3 cos sony had a deal that if u bought a bravia tv, u got a free ps3.

I'd maybe even say 3:1...
