MS: Delist old XBLA Titles, No Spring Update, Fixing DRM Issues
Posted by XanTium | May 22 17:11 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From next-gen.biz:
[QUOTE]
In this exclusive interview with general manager of Xbox Live Marc Whitten, Next-Gen gets all the first details on big changes to the service--including that there will be no spring dashboard update, and that underperforming XBLA titles will be removed.

According to Whitten, XBLA titles that have been out for more than six months, have a Metacritic score of less than 65%, and have a conversion rate of less than 6% will be eligible for desliting. Microsoft will give three months of notice before these titles are removed.

Whitten also told us that there would be no spring dashboard update for Xbox 360 owners this year, saying that resources were instead focused on "building the proper infrastructure and scale for the service." There will however be a change to DRM policy and a tool released next month that will allow 360 owners to re-license content to a single console--finally fixing the issue that forced gamers playing XBLA games to be connected to Xbox LIVE if their 360 broke down and was replaced.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I also see the future of Backwards Compatible games is going Bye Bye.

Finally!, a fix for their crappy overly restrictive DRM. If this happens I'll finally be able to upgrade to an elite without fear of losing access to my downloads while offline or signed into one of my other accounts. Although, I'll believe it when I see it.

Bit disappointing theres no spring update. I was looking forward to some new features sad.gif , oh well.

Aww, man. Guess that list of Spring Update features that was kickin around WAS a fake after all.

It's a shame, too, since it included a lot of highly desirable features. I was really looking forward to deleting all those XBLA trials from my gamercard, as trivial as that may sound. Oh well.

The DRM issue has been a thorn in their side as a direct result of too-heavy licensing and replacement consoles. If they fix this, I'd be over the moon!! I too am a little disappointed with no Spring update, but good to see they're addressing the big problems.

WTF... they're removing old XBLA games!!! huh.gif

WHY!?!

honestly it's not like they have limited space in the market place...

why the F*CK don't they cut the price in half or something... at least then they might make a little more money off of them...

there are dozens of XBLA games that I would have bought if they were 400MP instead of 800MP... most of them I'd still buy today at the lower price...

... f*cking morons dry.gif

i dunno but, i think the problem with cut price is that everyone will be waiting for cut price. apart from rich and hardcore people. and many people assumes cheaper means crap product.

also what if i bought, say, Pacman when it came out and they remove it. i won't be able to re-download it dry.gif

Wow! Removing games. Why? What if it's a multiplayer game and you bought? I don't see how this benefits anyone but Microsoft. I would see the online experience as a forum to immortalize all games, or at least for the life cycle of the console.

This is really sad. Abandoning titles that aren't even 3 years old. For what purpose, clear up disc space?!

Wouldn't hurt to be able to unlock those games that are to be removed for free the week before removal.

why not pull some old disc based games with a low metacritc score as well? is essentially the same thing as removing those arcade titles and is a slap in the face to the developers. this seems a bit fishy and makes me think that this guy has no clue what he is talking about

f*cking idiots
