Greenberg: Live dwls hit 1 million per day, Sony is Over-Promising and Under-Delivering
Posted by XanTium | May 26 12:40 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From videogaming247.com:
[QUOTE]
Aaron Greenberg, Xbox's director of product management, has confirmed that Live users are now downloading in the region of 1 million pieces of content daily.
"People are now downloading about a million things every day from the service," he said. "When we first launched 360, it took us four months - 120 days, more or less - to get 10 million downloads. And now we're doing 10 million downloads in ten days."

"We're at 17,000: the PlayStation Network is just around 600 items," he said. "This is like comparing a Wal-Mart superstore or a Cost-Co to your local Quickie Mart, right? It's at extreme ends... In the first year we had more than 600 items. We were way ahead of that."

"I think Sony has had a history of over-promising and under-delivering. [I was] just using actual facts of all the things that they had promised. I think I talked to some folks about this afterwards, but I think as an industry, we owe it to our customers to be straight with them. I think that some of the stuff we've talked about, while the reaction may not always be positive, we're going to tell you... People just want you to be straight with them. We know titles slip, we know things happen, and there's little we can do to control that, but if we promise something - I think as an industry - we need to start living up to our promises. As an organisation, i think Xbox has a pretty good track record of doing that."

has he forgot the 360 has been out a year longer than the PS3? And this is PS3's first real try in the online space, Xbox 1 had a good start for MS (getting Live out there etc PS2 didn't really do that) at least give Sony another year to catch up I really do like there new PSStore I find it easier than Market Place to be honest and having the price in £ is so much easier than them godam points.

i quite like the points system, cause you always haveto buy more points than you need and eventually they add up and its sort of like a little extra thing you can get laugh.gif

I will agree that the PSN store is pretty weak. And with the Sony brand name behind them, you'd think they would be overproducing content to download.

But I thought the best quote from this statement is "we owe it to our customers to be straight with them". Let's be honest here. It's not like Microsoft has been straight with its customers about other issues regarding the 360.

... You know, it seems these releases/statements that boast about who has the bigger metaphorical genitalia in such and such aspect of etailing or whatever stats they want to highlight for the day are nothing more than justification of the speakers position within the company and likely attempting to tout that the success is at least somewhat directly attributable to their presences.

It makes me wonder who they are writing for; is it for the direct appeasement of the already won over fan boy or do they actually believe someone is making an objective informed decision based on the bile that inevitably moves it's way up when there is nothing solid to process. I know the analysts probably feed their already ignorant and set opinions on things based upon who agrees with what they already believe, but honestly does this garbage serve as any more than something to swat at for "you and I".

I honestly don't see the point in putting this trash up as news articles, not that I am for one second trying to tell someone what to and what not to post, but if XS or any other site took the highground more often than not and said.. you know... non-story, not going to do it; the quality ratio would just seem to be a lot higher.

Talk about kicking Sony while they are down! This is like putting your starters back in with 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, winning by 40 points...

It makes me wonder if Sony did some serious trash talking and MS$ finally has the chance to push back muhaha.gif

I don't pay a lot of attention to the amount of traffic on this site, but it seems that since you can't mod the current generation of consoles as much as you could the last there are not that many newsworthy items to post anymore. I remember when I first started fooling with the original Xbox (about the time the 360 came out) there was always a lot of posts regarding modifications you could do to it along with basic news for non-modders.

So I guess if they were to get more picky about what they posted you would be looking at weekly instead of daily updates.

HFG. This subject has been done before. I don't know why they keep saying the same thing over and over... We all know that SONY royally screwed up on some things. We all know that MicroSoft did the same, but in a different way.
Xblive is still currently the BEST online console service. PSN has a long way to go. Why give Sony another year? To do what? Play catchup. The only way for them to catchup is if MicroSoft stopped working on xblive. I don't think that's going to happen.
Sony still needs to do the following; in game XMB - This is a must have. I love the ability to bring up the X360 menu no matter what's going on and do whatever I need. This also works with BC games, but it's a little tricky.
Custom In game music is another must have. I know you all would love to have this feature in the PS3.
Voice/text - chat no matter what you're doing on the console like (watching a movie, playing a game, viewing pictures, etc..),

Anyway, rolleyes.gif The PS3 customers have no choice but to wait. In the meantime, enjoy your games biggrin.gif . That's what these consoles are mainly designed for.

I love how the non owners always like to think they know what's best for a console they have no day to day experience of. Stick to your 360 instead of suggesting rules for a game you never intend to play.

As for the statement in the article.
What is the exact point of it. Nothing but a cheap point scoring PR exercise. It would seem he is trying to justify something and make a point that nobody is disputing. Perhaps trying to draw an equally pointless statement from Sony.

Tell you what else is pointless the amount of people that post just to moan about news. Don't like it or want to read it ...pass it by. Not happy with the content? Start submitting news items yourself.

So, he brags about how many items Microsoft has available to download, but they're still want to remove some of them? Huh?

You are right, but the problem is that submiting news that after submitting them, they are not added to the index and not receiving an answer telling you why, doesn't help either.

PS: Two news submitted, both dropped without answer. that's nice!

The last one, it's from a few days, it's an article that said that SONY has sent a number of lots of consoles, to replace all the refurbished consoles. some people where waiting up to 3 month to get their console replaced.

They wanted to reduce that time, to only 2 weeks.

I know it's not very interesting, but it's something different that we are used to...numbers and comparisons.

I will have to disagree with you there, Sony launched its online service in japan before the xbox launched theirs in the US. They have had plenty of time to start and build up a market place. it's my interpretation that Sony didn't see anything in the online market and wanted to stick to disc media. Soon as Xbox live market place showed up, they couldn't help but follow suit. I know this is a slightly biased view, but its just how I see it.

I just wished MS would knock off the ads in the service we paid for. It's just an eye sore for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my knowledge Sony doesn't have ads on their free service.

HFG . I did own a PS3. I also repair them. I also have played some of the games, though not all of them. DO you need proof blink.gif ? I was just stating that the PS3 would be much better if they had such features. I'm not putting your precious system down, so take it easy. sheeeeesh...... dry.gif

Exactly how I feel. Non-PS3 owners should just shut that hole in their faces if they don't own the console. It's like those V8 car owners looking down on the little 4-cylinder tuner cars... they talk trash about them, but when one of the V8 owners get dusted by a lil 4-cyl car, they just have nothing to say... or just make some sorry-ass excuses.
