UK: 360 consoles outselling PS3 since GTA IV launch
Posted by XanTium | May 29 15:31 EST | News Category: Xbox360
From gamesindustry.biz:
Sales of Xbox 360 consoles are 18 per cent ahead of the PlayStation 3 in the UK since the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, Chart-Track told Eurogamer. Official GTA IV sales figures for the first four weeks also reveal that the Xbox 360 is the format of choice for UK gamers, with 57 per cent of the total sales of the game on 360, compared to 43 per cent on PS3.
However, taking all 21 weeks of 2008 into account, sales of PlayStation 3 in the UK are 10 per cent ahead of Xbox 360. Prior to the launch of GTA IV, the PS3 boasted a 20 per cent lead on 360.
there's going to be fluctuations between the two (hell between the 3 consoles) during this whole generation.
What's interesting is that it appears that the 360 version of GTA IV (with the extra content) may have swayed potential buyers away from the PS3 in the UK - or it could be completely unrelated (ie. stock levels etc.)

The UK store Woolworths was doing a promotion at the time of release, and for about 3 weeks after, where you could buy an Arcade, Pro or Elite (159, 199 and 259 GBP respectively) and get GTA4 for free. I'm sure this helped get the console figures up a fair bit

woolworths do this for all major games, i can't imagine it makes a huge difference.
