First off, my xbox specs (for those who don't know):

Xbox v1.3
Xecuter 3CE Modchip (latest Xecuter bios)
Xecuter control panel
WD 500GB PATA HD (WD5000AAKB) [Current HD being used]
Maxtor DiamondMax10 250GB PATA133 HD (6L250R0) [Previous HD used]
Samsung DVD drive (SDG-605)
XBMC (semi-latest version, not able to load bios to FTP/update, useless at this point with this issue)

This is a recap, fresh, new post on the issues I have been having with my xbox for quite awhile now. The issues I am having (electrical gremlins or something) is the treacherous Error Code 07 (Solid red hard drive light). Here is a list on when the error appears:

Power on-->Flubber animation-->stops here-->doesn't show Xecuter logo-->after a few seconds, shows error

Power on-->Flubber animation-->Shows Xecuter logo-->stops here-->after a few seconds, shows error

Holding white button for bios menu-->first two instances stated above, bios doesn't load (sometimes it does)

Power on-->Flubber animation-->Shows Xecuter logo-->XBMC loads-->random lock-up (during session with XBMC and during game play)

Rarely can I ever get the xbox to boot up right, less run fine.

Something I would like to add, xboxmods2977 had stated during in someone else's post:

"Just a little insight. I had the same problem with a regular PATA HD and it was because my resistance (POT) was not set correctly on the positive side of my HD light. It could also be a power supply issue. I hope this helps anyone. By the way, I would shoot for the cable select setting."

I have contacted him on that, but I haven't got a reply yet. Does anyone know the details on what he is talking about, other the the power supply issue? Please explain it uhh.gif (somewhat in Dummy terms blink.gif ). I am hoping it is not the power supply. SICKdimension won't have his Xbox ATX Converter for awhile. sad.gif

Things I have tried:

1. Different IDE Cables
2. Different DVD drives
2. Same issue with both hard drives
3. 500GB HD has been formatted/partitioned using 32kb clusters

Check the psu by connecting the power wires for the hdd to your pc and taking some of the load off the psu and see if it works properly or you get further than before.

Woops, I did forget to mention, I have tried powering the HD from a spare ATX PS we have. I just jumpered the big plug on the PS so it would run itself, turning it on and off via a switch.

Check the socket on the motherboard where the IDE cable connects. On the underside, you can see the solder joins where all the pins come through. Try heating each of those up with a soldering iron, it's possible one came loose.

Sheesh, I forgot to mention I've done this too. In one of my previous posts on this issue, you had me try that. =/

All the solder points look good and intact. Would a bad solder job for the HD wire that goes to the modchip cause an issue? It looks ok...but at this point, I'm willing to try anything and hope to do away with this problem. It may be something little, but its a major compact.
