75% chance a price cut for xbox live gold will be announced? i have a feeling that if other competitors charged for their online services we'd see an increase. i eventually see live going to $70/yr, maybe not till the next iteration of the xbox but, i have a feeling it'll happen. i think the last thing we'll see is a live price cut. their membership is growing steadily and the whole, "omg wtfx $50/yr(!*#()!*#" isn't a prominent as it was back in 2004. anyways, this is an interesting list, i'm excited to see what actually will be announced though ;p

I honestly dont see what the problem is with paying 40 quid a year for xbox live.
The old saying goes you get what you pay for, isnt that right playstation people?
Internet play was a joke on PS2 and its not that much better on PS3, sure its getting better but its still miles away from the service you get with xbox live.

Quite a lot of the times in 2007 you didn't get what you paid for (Think 2 weeks down at Xmas) I am intrigued what problems are you experiencing with your online play on the PS3? I regularly play COD4, Everybodys Golf, Fifa08, UT3 with no issues.
By the way no chance of a price cut on live, I reckon

So can you private chat your friend when he signs on when your right in the middle of a game? I didn't think so, just as the other guy said "you get what you pay for" and with the ps3 you get pretty much nothing except being able to play games online. At least with the 50$ you get a well implemented chat and messaging system as well as the ability to listen to whatever music you have, I would gladly pay 50$ for psn if they could deliver same or like features. Even with 2.4 fw theres a ton of speculation that it will only bring the xmb to in game but will not have chat functions possibly just being able to compose text messages, are we still in the year 1995?

That's an interesting take on XBL. But, the $50 is just for playing online. I can privet chat with friends, listen to my music, and pretty much everything else except play games without paying. So if you think about it, you do have to pay $50 for something PSN lets you do for free. I'll still take XBL over PSN.

The price can't go up. We're already literally paying for nothing (remember Silver member features are FREE, and you still use your own bandwidth). Considering how many people I know with a 360 and internet, who refuse to get live because it costs too much, I price reduction is in order. Most of my friends with both consoles have their PS3 online because it's free, and don't subscribe to LIVE.

That speculation is unwarranted. The video showing the 2.4 TEST fw didn't indicate that voice chat was still restricted. I don't see much reason why it couldn't be done. The chat messaging system of the 360 is free, though, not $50.

did someone actually get paid to make a 'chance list' like that? wow.. i need to find a job like that!
ROFL. I think we all could use a job like that. And anyone that claims Live is too expensive is flatout cheap. I'm sorry, but its not even the cost of a new game anymore, if you can't shell out $50 a year, you probably have no buisness owning a 360. PSN is an unimpressive service. Voice chat isn't standard, its damn near impossible to add people to your friends list, etc. etc. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is a nice piece of hardware, but I don't get on it wondering whose on or what games I'm gonna play online. I'm still holding out for Home and the new firmware with intergrated XMB, but for now, its pretty stale compared to Live.

You can drive a car with your feet, too; that doesn't make it a good idea... Just because I can afford $50 a year, doesn't mean they should charge me for it. Can you please, PLEASE (pretty please?) tell me what makes a gold membership actually warrant the $50 price tag (in other words, please tell me WTF I'm paying them for). Nobody has ever answered this question for me...

Your paying for them to moderate the system, continue to add new features, and keep some of the riff-raff out.
Trust me.. if it were 100% free it would be a clusterf**k... The competitions systems are crap compared to XBL.
And they are also charging you because they can. They are not hurting for subscribers with the $50 a year. Why would they lower the price, you don;t think its worth it. Don't pay. I don't.
