Rumor: Microsoft to Announce 60GB Xbox 360 at E3?
Posted by XanTium | June 16 14:11 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From trustedreviews.com:
[QUOTE]
A number of months have passed since I dropped that Xbox 360 60GB bombshell on you guys, so you're probably wondering what's going on? Here's the latest...

After much dillying and dallying Microsoft has decided internally that it will announce the long overdue upgrade at E3 next month (the event runs from 15 - 17 July) with a release then scheduled for August (pre-10th says my source).

Not a big enough upgrade IMO.
Should be 120Gb standard. the price of storage these days is cheap and with so much to download from XBL, the bigger the better

That would make the Elite SKU entirely useless except for the color, with the new round of motherboards (non-elites now having HDMI). 60 is plenty. I have the 120gig and I feel like I will never be able to fill that up. If you want to complain about a HDD, complain about Sony which with the game installs, is technically gonna give you must less space then a xbox 60 gig.

I can replace my PS3 one with a 250Gb one for less than 50 quid. I don't need to yet 19 games and it is nowhere like full. Don't believe everything you read.
20Gb is crap. 60GB is better but I would standardise the 120GB. they already have source for the elite. Drop the price on the Elite to make it more attractive to purchasers and phase it out to leave less SKUs radical I know but it would be a good move.

Edit
Just why you feel it a requirement to bring Sonys PS3 into this topic I have no idea. Reaction maybe.

I would not be surprised if it cost more than the 120 GB hd. They don't get the DRM issue fixed, they demand way to much money for a crappy hard drive to store crap in. They are crazy. Even if i did buy the 120. now i have no money left to buy content with.

Until they allow you to put your own content on your hard drive then 20GB is enough for me. I hate the fact that MS does this. I just bought the PS3 80gb MSG4 bundle and was amazed that the instruction manual actually tells you how to swap for a bigger hard drive and the fact that you can actually store you own content on the HD is great. Come on MS! Sony allows you to do this and they own a movie studio...

P.S. Fix the freaking DRM so I can play spades again.

Maybe the Elite SKU is going to stay the same, with a 120GB HDD and all the other SKU will get a 60 GB HDD.

Eventhough, i would be preferable that all the consoles had 120GB HDD and the elite went up to 250 GB HDD

sleeping.gif All I ever hear from you is about your bloody PS3 if it's so great then go play it or stay in PS3 section of the forum.

60gb is fine people don't need crazy amounts like 250gb this is a 360 not a ps3 that installs like 3gb of data for every game.

he was just stating that MS will rip us a new asshole on this and wont allow us to use our own so they can rape us and PS3 allows you to use your own and cost less.

While Chancer may like his PS3 (what, a satisfied customer?), I'd say most of his posts mentioning it are directly relevant to the subject matter. In this case, someone had compared to the PS3 (stating that game installs take up data quick), and he stated he was far from filling it up with a 19 game library. I know that personally, I have about 13 games, a couple of betas, as well as a couple games bought from the PSN & additional content, and between 1.5GB-2GB of video & music saved to the hdd. I have a 120GB drive and have used less than 30GB so far. While many games have an install process, most don't use very much space at all (though some may use up to 4.5GB, like MGS4).

As for the idea of a 60GB drive, I think it's a great idea for MS. The 20GB drives only come with 13GB of free space (or is it 7GB? I forgot which). I, myself, have a handful of CDs encoded on my 360, and mostly free game expansions/updates (I did buy content for a few games, tho), and only a couple of XBLA titles. I've still got plenty of free space. Anyone who spends an average of 1600MS ponits a month, however, probably needs some space about now, or very soon.

Is it news worthy to announce a mid range hard drive at E3? I'm sure the people crowding around the xbox booth at E3 will be WOWED by this announcement.

although 60 GB is plenty for the 360 (even though i have nothing less than 160 GB on several original xboxes in my home) i still would expect at this point in the life cycle to have advanced to a much larger drive and agree with Chancer that 120 GB should be standard by now.

this is not that big of an issue though with how the 360 stores data and i will welcome the new hard drive and price cut...
