I bought a pencil tip soldering iron and I'll do a better job to solder de capacitor and wait to see if it gets better.

Hey, I just noticed something, is it normal that the 4 and 3 ports are bridged under the motherboard were is the 2 usb port?

Sweet! I've just fixed the box. The 0101 error code is due to bridged points under the 2 usb ports...that's what I think because I fixed it by taking off the extra amount of solder. smile.gif

I have another theory..

Just got the same error on a machine here..

I didnt test it extensively, just saw that it RROD and opened it up.. Did as you said, removed the excessive solder and turned it back on, still RROD.. so I just let it stand there being on RROD for a while, 20 minutes later when I came back it was suddenly within Xbox Xperinence menu, and had appearantly already turned on properly..

Who knows.. I turned it off again, and on again, and it seemed to work..

So I tested it out with Saints Row 2 on HDMI port

(this was a 16,2A the version before Falcon)

and it seemed to be working fine, went through intro video etc, for 30 minutes even, but when I tried to start the game it froze during intro video..

I tried to restart it, did it again,

restarted it and it seemed to work, hooked up a harddrive, but it just froze (when accessing harddrive), so I thought to myself it might be both USB and Sata port related (Storage device/I-O-ports), so I removed the harddrive, turned it on again.. this time with normal component cable (not hdmi), to see if it was GPU related or not (incase it would have worked without HDMI).. but still it freezes..

It doesnt give RROD very often, just freezes, if I turn it off and back on again most of the times it boots.. but when it doesnt it give 0101 secondary error code.. if I push the eject button MANY times while holding in sync button it can sometimes show the number 3 (amount of lights) as a secondary code.. in between 4's and 1's..

Annoying, I havent checked the sata ports and sodlering there yet, but I do think its GPU related somehow..

I will post my new findings after Ive had the time to look at this machine more..

This is the first HDMI elite machine that gives me this much trouble, (earlier elite machines I get normal 0102 on, and fix them straight with GPU/CPU x-clamp-fix)..

Any other inputs would be appreacited as to what might be the problem here..

Thanks guys wink.gif

Thanks Wilhelm for the part. Now I soldered it, plugged it and it was saying te secondary error 0103. So I cleaned de solder around de capacitor and now it turned to 0100. So I restarted it and it turned to 0101 like it was before...im about to trow it by the window...argg! Can't repair this one...think I'm gonna heatgun it a second time...

I think something familiar is happening to my XBox 360..

Ive also seen the error code 0103 while it being in RROd and showing 0101 3-4 times first..

But this Xbox 360 has never been touched (the hardware parts) except for desoldering the USB pins, so I doubt very much that a capacitor is missing.. but can you take a photo of the area (high resolution please) and the capacitor? Ive got 2 Xbox 360's laying around that are totally busted that I can take parts from, so Ive got that covered..

Are you sure you didnt just bump into that Capacitor when removeing the x-clamp the first time to fix it? Has happened to me before, on another xbox, while removing GPU-xclamp.. really busted up some traces and 2 capacitors and 1 resistor, replaced the parts and it worked again like a charm..

Any inputs here regarding the 0101 and 0103 would be very appreciated..

<FONT COLOR="RED"><B>BTW Lokey, is this XBox 360 your talking about an ELITE modell (meaning HDMI output on hardware)?</B></font>

Thanks

I just got this error on two 360s that I repaired using the lawdawg xclamp replacement.. Used all aliminum washers instead of the nylon washers.. SO i'm wondering where I'm suppose to desolder the two pins under the two USB ports..

Hi everyone. I repair xbox 360's for a while now and I was always skeptical about spring washers and nylon washers. Funnily enough most of the RROD consoles that I get have spring and nylon washers installed.
It is a fact that not all of the consoles are repairable but instead of doing it right people use spring washers that grind the motherboard and in some cases even break Ram solders giving you the final RROD.
IPB Image

I wouldnt trust the Nylon Wasers either cause for one they will change shape and blend into metal washer giving you RROD again quite soon.
IPB Image

I use a simple combination of bolts and metal washers and it does the trick (No need to worry about short circuits)
24 metal washers and 8 m5 bolts is the magic lot.
I buy it from ebay (uk) from this guy.
£4 for the whole set including silver HQ paste next day delivery. Or you can buy it in bulk 10 sets for £15
I like the way he tries to save the planet and instead of printed paper instructions he gives link to his blog where you get all the info, tutorials, error code lists and other related stuff!
Check it out
this is the link to his listings, single set or bulk
and thats the link to
that blog

I hope it works for you guyz, peace

I got it to actually work now! Its required to use Hybrid or willhelms improve method... Hybrid is the best but harder: http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=hybrid

or Willhelms improved method: http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=xclampeng

I used Hybrid!!!

Soo good news. I took a look at the pins on the bottom of the usb port and sure enough there was solder bleeding across onto another pin. Fixed that and then got error 0010. reflowed the gpu and cpu and put new thermal paist on and sure enough it boots right up. The best part is that it has firmware 6717 on it =)
