Rumor: Microsoft to drop price on 20GB 360, make room for 60GB
Posted by XanTium | June 30 18:15 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From arstechnica.com:
[QUOTE]
A leaked scan of an upcoming K-mart ad that shows the 20GB 360 Pro model selling for $299.99 has led many to believe that the system will see a price drop at E3. I have since received an e-mail with a copy of a communication from a usually trustworthy source that claims that the price drop is not only pending, but a 60GB Xbox 360 is coming as well.

"At E3 Microsoft will make an official announcement that we are dropping the 20GB pro console to $299... As we launch the 60GB SKU throughout July, the 20GB SKU will DISCONTINUE. You will see the new SKU on your 7/1 price list," the communication reads.

I don't know if I have understood everything...

The drop in price is only temporary, since the 20 GB will be available for a limited period of time?

The 60GB model will have a similar price than the current pro model?

Thanks for answering

This is really breaking news, but no one seems to comprehend it.

M$ is probably pushing out a new motherboard with the 60GB Console, which would be a reason why they're getting rid of the 20GB model.

I am anxious to see what motherboards are in the 60GB models.

A new mobo with cooler chips.....and hopefully a easy hackable drive. biggrin.gif

So it's not trustworthy?

Seriously I won't believe this until MS announce it (most likely at E3)...can't people just wait?

I doubt it, I think it will be the same old 360 with a new 60GB drive, purely because 20GB isn't enough for MS to make any real money on downloadable content sales, and 20GB drives must be getting hard to source, and perhaps contracts for them are coming up to expiry.

Have no idea why they wouldn't think ahead a bit for once and go straight to 80GB at least.

I don't really care, I want the arcade model to drop by $50 so that replacing a flaky console gets cheaper.
In fact I wish they would release a replacement console option, where you just get a 360 with no power supply, controllers, or cable or anything and sell it online or something for $199 or less to people who have a crapped out 360.

I've heard about a new mobo coming in september, Jasper I think it's called.
Isn't the best time to get an xbox during that time?

I wonder if they will sell the 60GB as a standalone drive and how much it would cost.... the 120GB drive cost way too much... then I could sell my 20GB drive to my friend who doesn't have a HD to help pay for a 60GB HD.... I can see Microsoft only selling the drive for $20 less than the 120GB HD... lol
