Analyst questions validity of 'hybrid' Xbox 360
Posted by XanTium | July 1 23:23 EST | News Category: Xbox360
From gamesindustry.biz:
Following recent rumours that have suggested Microsoft may allow electronics firms to develop hardware featuring Xbox 360 technology - effectively paving the way for third-parties to build Blu-ray players, PCs and set-top boxes which play 360 games - a leading analyst has said that such a move would prove too expensive.
Michael Pachter, of Wedbush Morgan Securities, believes that any such radical repositioning of Microsoft's hardware business model might help the Xbox 360 penetrate Japan, but in other markets it wouldn't be a viable business for third-parties.
Yeah... though the fact that he's actually heard about it must mean this is rumour is taking a life of it's own. It's pretty rare we get a comment on rumour from an analyst, makes me think it's all the more possible the rumours are true.

As much as I would love to see it, Microsoft would have too high of licensing fees that would interest other companies to make them in the first place. More and more questions pop up. Microsoft REALLY wants to keep their hardware/software secure. So how would the security on the consoles work out?
