Leaked Info on 60gb Starter Kit and 20gb's Death
Posted by XanTium | July 8 12:12 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From xboxfamily.com:
[QUOTE]
Below is a portion of an email being sent out to GameStop and Blockbuster buyers (logistical people handling what the store actually stocks). The email has the complete details on the 60gb hard drive and what will happen to the 20gb and 120gb hard drives. Email follows:

"With the introduction of the 60GB Pro console in July, we have research that suggests it is very important to have a 60GB stand alone Hard Drive to go along with it to allow the consumer a full range of choices and values. In late October/early November (exact date TBD but most likely last week in October or 1st week in November), we will ship the Xbox 360 60GB Hard Drive, tentatively called the "Xbox 360 60GB LIVE Starter Pack". This will be an excellent value price at and ERP of $99.99 with an 18% retail margin that contains:
* 60GB Hard Drive
* 3 Months of Xbox Live
* Xbox 360 Wired Headset
* Xbox 360 Ethernet Cable (same one that is included with Pro and Elite)

With the end of life of the 20GB Hard Drive and the price drop of the 120GB Hard Drive to $149.99 in September, this new 60GB hard drive will fit very well into our "Choice and Value" pillar and will fit nicely into our accessory line up. Exact SKU/UPC/Set up info will come soon and once we nail down the exact MSD, I will let you all know immediately."

It'd be neat if MS would stop bundling stuff together so they can charge me again for what I already have.

Considering I need a new headset as well as a new harddrive, $100 isn't too bad.

I guess it depends on your situation...

$149 for the 120 GB is a bit more reasonable... I still think it could be cheaper, though.
I got a 250 GB drive for my laptop for $99 sleep.gif

You have to hand it to MS though, they keep pulling out these extra boosters when need be, I honestly don't think PS3 has a leg to stand on anymore. It seems MS has had these new 120 and 60 gig releases ready from the get go.

Then when sony puts a 200GB HDD in their systems, MS will go for $250. I seriously wish we could just use our own HDDs. Would also be cheaper for MS because they wouldnt have to offer warranty on the HDDs. It would be under whichever company made the HDDs.

You are joking right. I can put any 250GB sata HDD in a PS3 for less than the money they are selling these for. Why bundle the other crap with it. Most people have this already. Oh and all PS3 models come with a HDD.
MS has features and offers for the 360 that beat the PS3 but this isn't one of them.

yea m$ when it comes to addons are costly but thats how they make there money. my 20gb does the job fine being i use it for only game saves and maybe a rentel movie. ye i do that but mostly because i live in a area where drive 20 miles to find anything including move places. and with todays gas prices i dont drive anywhere unless its to work.

None the less. They raped us. They tricked consumers into thinking that they were getting 20GB that we can fully use for our content. They should have started with at least 40gb, 60gb would have been better too from the get go.

the same with other consoles too then, and the same with any hard drive you buy on the market.

a stock 500gb drive wont actually be 500 gb, you will only get roughly 488Gb as manufactures count GB as 1000mb instead of true 1024mb, and then there's variables in the manufacturing process which will make the physical space even smaller. then when you install your OS, you will have even less for you to use. its the exact same thing so you really cant complain as the exact same thing will happen with any device equipped with a HD
