Nyko Announces E3 Product Lineup: Intercooler TS Cooler for 360
Posted by XanTium | July 10 12:01 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From the press release:
[QUOTE]
Leading gaming peripherals manufacturer, Nyko Technologies, today provided a sneak peek at its new lineup of products to be on display during next week's E3 Media & Business Summit, taking place July 15th through July 17th. The new product debuts fulfill a line of gaming peripherals recently shipped to market and soon to be released, spanning Nintendo's Wii home console, the Xbox 360, and PlayStation3.

The following new products will be on display at the Nyko exhibition booth in Room 505B of the West Hall:

* Intercooler TS for Xbox 360 - September 2008
The successful Intercooler series gets an update! Easy snap-on installation and an AC power supply provides a more convenient and powerful solution than USB. New temperature control technology and additional assets will be revealed during E3.

Save your cash, and don't bother. Fans on fans is a very bad idea.
That and look at the mess the original ones made to your box. Melted power socket anyone?

There's a cooling unit for the Wii. They make units for anything. Have you ever heard of a Wii overheating?

"and additional assets will be revealed during E3"

Like noise reduction? Mines twice as loud as the 360 alone.

The Intec Turbo Cooler is just like the Intercooler, but has it's own PSU. $11.99 at buy.com.

You're right about fan stacking, but only if the additional fans don't have more CFM than the original ones. The stock fans run at 5v, while the 3 additional on the Intercooler/Turbo Cooler run at 12v. That, and they fans aren't stacked right on top of the the others, as there is quite a big game between them. That's why these coolers ARE effective.

I've seen the Wii get pretty damn hot, which is surprising since the technology was fine in the GameCube.

Consumer electronics is designed to run hot, though. For instance, the temperature ceiling on the mobile Core 2s is ninety five degrees. You could fry an egg on your processor, and not damage it. They don't call them laptops anymore, because they're actually designed to run at temperatures that could cause you health problems if you put them on your lap*. The Wii's not actually being damaged by running hot, and there's no reason to strap more fans to it.

The first generation of 360 was somewhat of an anomaly in not being able to handle temperatures that are normal for the industry.

I don't like the sound of Nyko's "temperature control tecnology". This is pretty much going to be an Intercooler with a 12v psu, and sensors that let the Intercooler come on when temps get high. Ok, that would be good if the Intercooler allowed for good airflow OUT of the system while off, but it's gonna block the exhaust and keep heat in. They need to just follow Intec's lead here.

This is what I meant in my first post. I dont want automatic temp control but I do want a design like the Intec on its own psu. I have a intec and it does mave a fair amount of air and keep my 360 abit cooler but the Nyko seemed to keep it coolest I just didnt like the passthrough and thats why I modded it to run on its own psu. Its just ugly. lol I suspect the Nyko moves a bit more air than the Intec because of my psu its on not because its supperior or nothing. I want the same intercooler just its own psu. I can testify to the fact it does keep the unit far cooler than running without. I wont argue with intercooler haters on the stack idea because their facts are a bit flawed IMO. I am a certified pc tech and have a fair amount of knowledge on fans and I see where they get their ideas from but in the real world test they do what they were designed to do and rather well. But this has obviously been discussed and debated in many other threads on here so I wont argue. The only reason the Intercooler got a bad name was because of the dang passthrough IMO and without that it is a good product at least for the older 360's anyway. I like the intercooler for an aftercooler mostly of all.

If you want your Intec to move more air, ditch the crappy AC/DC adapter and get a 500ma DC adapter. It moves a ton more air with a DC adapter of the same ma. Works just as good as the Intercooler using the passthrough.

I am not a fan at all of 3rd party peripherals. They just seem like cheap immitations of the real thing, and the intercoolers really are unnecessary and ugly to boot.

The Intercooler type devices provide more airflow in and out of the console. With the 360, that's totally necessary.

Agreed, and there are plenty of tests that confirm they work. Hell even IGN said there only working launch unit was sporting a intercooler. Coincedence, I dont think so. And I will take your advice and try a different adapter its just common sence it will work better. Kudos on the idea man thanks. biggrin.gif
