there are two way round the problems with freezing during the game
1 if you have the original game you will have to have an xbox live account just the silver will do launch the game and it will prompt you to update if you choose the update you will not be able to play backups of that game before the update was installed. but if you backup the game after the update the backups will work(dont use on xbox live)
2 this also requires you to have the original but this way all you have to do is send the game back to ea disk replacement program they inturn will send you a new copy with the patch already on it and you can make full working backups of this disk
