New 360 Dashboard: 'You don't have to use it'
Posted by XanTium | July 21 13:01 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From computerandvideogames.com:
[QUOTE]
If you don't like the look of the new Xbox 360 Dashboard unveiled at E3 last week, then "you don't actually have to use it," says Microsoft's Xbox Live director of programming Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb.

According to The Major, every single function available in current 360 backend will be included in the new, clean-looking Dash', which you can bypass completely if you choose.
"I know that there are some people that aren't going to like the happy, happy, shiny New Xbox Experience. For whatever reason it's not flipping their bit," Hryb said in his latest podcast.
"Here's my message to you: you don't actually have to use it. You can never go there, just leave your game disc in and pretty much do everything that you could before but on the Guide level - one button press away in every single game."

Sounds excellent to us. Even more good news for New Xbox Experience haters comes in the form of Avatars, and how you don't have to use them. "If you don't like the avatars, they're not required. You can use your Gamer Pictures," said Hryb in the podcast. "Your existing and Gamer Pictures and Themes still work," adds co-host 'e'.

I just hope they don’t shift focus completely on the new dash. They still should do something with the current dash, it really needs to be cleaned up. I hope Microsoft doesn’t loose interesting in it like they have with other products when a newer form comes out.

that leads me to believe that the dash is very mandatory but that to avoid it just load the disc and youll get the guide thing which look slike the old dash a bit...which kind of sucks, i was hoping they would let you pick between either dash and have the ability to swap between them.

Thats totally misleading though isn't it?. They're trying to make it sound like the old dash is still an option when really it's not. Having a miniature guide version of the old dash, constantly keeping a game in the tray and never visiting the new dash isn't really a practical alternative is it.

I don't have a problem with new avatars, I think they could be fun. I just don't like the way the new dash looks/works + its full of advertising. Thats the reason the new dash isn't erm..."flipping my bit"?, as the Major puts it blink.gif .

This is gonna be awesome, I hated having to always go back to the dash to do anything and yes the guide button giving me access to full function of the blade style dash is awesome. Also it sounds like Gamer pics will definately be allowed in place of the Avatars, that is cool right. New dash same cool gamer pics and themes it seems to be the best of both worlds and I think we all need to just see how it ends up. If it comes time for the update and then we find that avatars are stuffed down our throats then I will join in singing with the "this sucks shit" choir.

yeah i have no problem with anything else, just the look of the new dash is just not my thing, although it is early and it can change. ive been using this dash for what? 3 years or something now and they should give us the option on what dash we want to use.

and he did sounds very misleading, they know some ppl are not liking the whole design and they are trying to avoid complaints i think.

so all those people who paid for themes are going to get a refund of their money right? I mean, that's the only logical thing a reasonable company like Microsoft would do if they sold a product and then forced their customers to disable the product 6 months later.
