Satchell: 'We've reinvented the Xbox'
Posted by XanTium | July 22 21:36 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From developmag.com:
Microsoft's games division CTO Chris Sachell told the attendees of his Gamefest keynote that the firm's new 360 dashboard, which launches later this year, effectively reboots the console for a wider audience - and presents more chances for developers to monetise their creations.

"What this does is reinvent the Xbox," said Satchell. "I don't think any one has ever done this before - transformed a console during its lifecycle."
"This will bring more people in. The new UI is more approachable and as we broaden our market it is important for reaching new gamers. And there's also lots of ways to merchandise your content."
Anyone else think the new dashboard looks more like the PS3 dashboard?

Not in the slightest. The XMB is more of a rip-off of Windows Media Center than anything and a better comparison.

Satchell: 'We've reinvented the Xbox'

and are now calling it the "iWii2"

Cut the BS M$, I don't think they reinvented anything. Personally I never post usually just read what other pple post, but this reinventing talk is just ridiculous. I think Sony actually reinvented what the xbox 360 should have been and built on the things that pple like me liked about the first xbox.

I was really happy to have XBMC, a console that had a built in hard drive that's upgradeable and was more than just a gaming machine. PS3 does all of these things, that's why I went from xbox1 to PS3, now suddenly M$ needs to reinvent itself and go from gaming to other stuff, like online video distribution. They're just doing what everybody is doing, diversifying and branching off of gaming...or basically touting that their console does more than just gaming.

Also, I got my PS3 for 598 Australian dollars, if I would have bought an Xbox360 that would have been 450 bucks, or whatever the pro costs now plus 139 for the wireless adapter (I can't lay a network cable across the middle of my living room...) and 100 for a 1 year subscription to Xbox live, meaning I'm paying f'n 689 for a console that until now just did gaming...PS3 is just not that much more expensive than xbox and if you spend that much, you want a console that can last as well...

I mean its got price, features and quality going for it, nuff said, sorry that I said many things in one post that aren't directly connected to the topic, but as I said, I hardly ever post...alright maybe I'm totally off topic, lol

oh come on MS why don't you just make it similar to XBMC's Project Mayhem III..I think it's the best Dashboard ever and it's more "Approachable" than yours

well..don't forget to offer all the features XBMC does biggrin.gif

anyway, this new dashboard isn't so bad and I do like it but the problem is those stupid "Avatars"

Yes they've reinvented it from a hardcore gamers console to a Wii but without the motion controller. Thanks. It will bring more people in but it will also loose some of the core gamers rolleyes.gif
