Microsoft: We won’t scrap Live Gold fees
Posted by XanTium | August 1 11:15 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From mcvuk.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft revealed that it would be scrapping charges for Games for Windows Live at Gamefest 08 last week - but has confirmed to MCV that it won't be doing the same for Xbox 360 service.

A Microsoft spokesman explained to MCV: "For only a few pounds a month Xbox Live Gold members already get access to the best online gaming network in the industry, the ability to play and watch countless demos and trailers before the rest of the gaming community, and video chat and messaging."
"With the new Xbox experience coming this Fall, we plan to give even more reasons why Xbox Live Gold is the best bargain in the industry."

"Best bargain"? Maybe if the other consoles charged a fee for their online service. Comparatively speaking, xbl gold is a horrible bargain compared to the other consoles.

It is the best experience for online gaming compared to the other consoles, though.

Unfortunately all were really getting is the ability to play games online.

Everything else is already freely available to Silver members.

It would be nice if we got extra perks like free themes and gamer pics, or free downloads of normally paid content.

Hate to break it to ya man, but that sentence works for just about any company out there. The gaming industry isn't about manufacturing as many smiles as possible (as Nintendo would want you to believe) but making as much money as possible. And as of now there is no real reason for MS to not charge for Live. People are still willing to pay and it, as of now, is a more complete package than the PS3 offering. Now if Sony can come up with a more compelling experience with Home, which I believe is entirely possible, and still not charge (which I do find unlikely) then MS may drop the Live fees. Sadly, I still see the day where Sony begins to charge for their service as being nearer than the day where MS drops theirs.

Just to reiterate, if you want to spend £20 a year instead of £40 a year, buy American scratchcards off the internet.

The months work anywhere in the world, but Microsoft Points only work for accounts domiciled in their region of origin.

My question: Will Live Primetime be free to gold subscribers? Or do you have to buy the individual games as well? The former would make gold more worth the price, but since they haven't mentioned it being free I should assume it's not.

Yes, and we (silver users):
- don't have to wait a week to download demo/free DLC
- can write personal messages from XBOX.COM website
- can play multiplayer...
[/IRONY MODE OFF]

And now imagine yourself paying 120€ for a year of Live Gold (because our currency is like 1:3.2)? Happy now? Don't think so...

sorry but this made me chuckle a little biggrin.gif

I luvz meh some live but i have to admit it is hard to hear that the fees are scrapped for pc but console gamers are still being milked! I have been an avid Pc gamer and console gamer since birth. I just can't seem to make sense as to why for one it should be free and for the other it can't be o.0!!

Its not to bad of a cost for all the games you can play. Besides people pay like what $10 or so a month to play a shitty MMORPG like WOW
