There's An Xbox 360 Shortage In Japan?!
Posted by XanTium | August 1 11:44 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From kotaku.com:
[QUOTE]
Tales of Vesperia is launching in Japan soon. August 7th, actually. And some people seem pretty excited. It's the tenth entry in the Tales series. The Namco Bandai title is an Xbox 360 exclusive, so that just might mean that Microsoft will move more than it's standard 3,000 Xbox 360s a week in Japan. Or not.

As of posting, Amazon Japan is sold out of new HDMI Xbox 360s (but does have Elites). HAPPINET, one of the major Xbox 360 distributors in Japan, are sold out of everything but the Elite. According to game store clerk threads on 2ch, the Xbox 360 will be restocked after Tales of Vesperia is released. What's more, the Tales of Versperia bundle is apparently limited to something like 7,000.

You haven't really thought that through have you. Or maybe you really don't know.
Japan don't care about gaming??? Are you really serious???
They don't care about MS products.
There must be a shortage as they sold 4 of the 5 360s that were shipped over to Japan for sale laugh.gif

If there's a shortage, it's because they stopped shipping them to Japan when the warehouses were saturated. Maybe now they're finally empty?

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. Sales may pick up a little but don't expect earth shattering numbers out there. I really doubt that MS is continuing to try as hard as they can to make headway in Japan. It is kind of surprising how poorly it's doing out there as they have a lot more Japanese styled games than the Xbox did, it's like night and day. Let's see if FFXIII helps any.

That is weird how they are selling out of everything but the Elites. Isn't it the exact opposite here? When I was looking for my Elite a few months ago, I had to call around for at least an hour to see if anyone had one, then had to drive 45 minutes to pick it up. Everyone said they had plenty of pros however.

The only reason the elite seems like any kind of deal is because the hard disk price is a ripoff. Maybe more of them realize that over there. If they threw in wireless it would have made a better deal.

I guess that is true now. I bought mine specifically for the HDMI port, the bigger HD for me was just a benefit and it meant I could give my old one to my brother so we could play together. There really isn't much point to them anymore now that the other SKUs also have the HDMI port. The charcoal color is quite sexy though.

I don't think FFXIII will help any, seeing as how it's a PS3 exclusive in Japan.

I remember when I was living in Japan (close to Tokyo) the used game shops always had a few Xbox 360s for sale from about $230 - $300 (back when the retail was $400). Then whenever a "must have" game came out (usually an RPG like Blue Dragon) they would sell out. A few months later they would be stocked up again. That led me to believe that Japanese gamers would buy a system for 1 game, beat it, then get rid of the system.
