Mole attack: 360 price cuts on all hardware in September?
Posted by XanTium | August 1 15:38 EST | News Category: Xbox360

A 'trusty' mole over at arstechnica.com told 'em Microsoft will introduce a price drop for all Xbox360 SKUs in September:
[QUOTE]
Early Sept price reduction on X360 hardware:
* Arcade (no hard drive) to $199
* Pro (60GB) to $299
* Elite (120GB) to $399

We should also expect hardware and game bundles for all hardware versions coming in the fourth quarter, just in time for the holidays.

The last time the mole talked to me, before he became a super-villain, he told me the 60GB model of the hardware was coming, and he was right on the money with that one. Those prices should be considered rumors, but I'd be very surprised if this wasn't accurate information. Very sexy pricing.

Hmm looks like I will hold off until September to see if this happens. Would make sense as by then they should be on the Jasper boards which should cost less to make due to the die shrink on the gpu.

very sexy pricing indeed, that is if it is true, seems like a steep price break, but MS is in a position to make it happen and succeed...we can only wait and see - it's not too many weeks away...

I hope this is true. I have been waiting for the price drop to buy a second 360 to put in the bedroom.

The controllers are wireless, all you need is a video/audio cable splitter + extension. Works like a champ! Only thing is you can't put in a disc from the bedroom, but how long are you going to be in there where you need to be switching discs?

I wish I hadn't paid so much for mine, twice, since the first broke. I can't believe how much they were charging for it at first. PS3 too. Hopefully next gen is less expensive... not to mention the controllers!

Wonder if this will force Nintendo to cut the price of the Wii?

I doubt it, the price cut would have to have a serious impact on the demand for the Wii (which I doubt it would do).

I think the Wii is in a category of its own, independant from ps3/360 rivalry.

Wasn't this same rumor around not too long ago?

"We know price drop trends, so let's keep announcing it until it happens".

How about $610 then? Or $630 if you're going for a PS3... Quit your whinin' laugh.gif

I own both and that's what I paid for mine. Sony and Microsoft are losing a bunch of money with price cuts and crap like that in the US and Japan. They make up for that by raping Europe (and Australia).

Add a extra $100 on to each package then you get the UK prices.

Very good prices if I didn't own two 360's already and lived in US then I would be buying an ELite for sure.

The Wii wont ever drop it's price it's still selling very well and I would think if sales start to slump then Nintendo will just offer special package deals.

I have to agree about the insane markups for Europe and Australia. If only we didn't have import tax like the U.S. does on games/toys.
