Edge's Don Mattrick Interview
Posted by XanTium | August 5 00:14 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From edge-online.com:
* Lips, You're In The Movies and Scene It? Box Office Smash are also aimed at expanding Xbox's reach but they're game types that have already shown considerable success on other formats. Does this show you're not taking too many risks on the software side?
* Don Mattrick: When you say not taking too many risks, I think there's kind of a natural evolution of packaged goods, products and experiences coming to the market - this coming year we estimate there will be about 150 titles on Xbox 360, and the majority will be E-rated. And if you're into M-rated content there will be some spectacular games. I think that breadth of titles naturally expands an audience, and I also think that we're all finding our own sense of identity inside the market. We're leading in terms of hours played - a recent study showed that 18-26-year-olds are roughly spending 75 hours a week with our box, which is pretty amazing. That audience tends to be the leader, it tends to influence younger siblings in a household in terms of what's cool and what's hot in the consumer electronics space.

* What have you taken from the hardware problems Xbox 360 has faced?
* Don Mattrick: Well, I think we built a pretty amazing box. It was unfortunate that we had some hardware challenges but I totally applaud the way the company dealt with that in being up-front and implementing the warranty. It's unfortunate when anything you create fails, but consumers have appreciated the fact we've said: 'This is a mistake, and this is how we're going to fix it'. People continue to use and evangelize about the product even when faced with this challenge, and I think our team's done an amazing job with fixing it.
Note: 75h a week, really? And I'm Bill Gates. Oh wait ... ;)

75 hours a week....

if they played for 10 hours every day of the week for 7 days that's only 7 hours. At some point they have to eat, work and sleep...

75 hours a week is NOT possible....

"Being up-front and implementing the warranty...."

Please... WTF are you saying??? M$ has been avoiding giving a direct answer to the flaw on their machines for a looooooong time. Now tell me, Mattrick, is that up-front? Damn right it's not you asshat.

Seriously. Most 18-26 year-olds have school AND work, so 75hrs/week average is NOT possible. That guy is just talking out his ass... I hope you're reading this Mattrick so you can see how STUPID you are.

Well I also say 75hr a week GAMING is probably and more than likely a exageration ...

HOWEVER he did not say gaming.. he said SPENDING TIME.. this would mean Playing movies, Games, all media, chatting, etc etc it goes on and on.

Now that may be even closer to what he said. But it is pushing it. When I was 18-26 I was on the computer about that much. Of course I lived 2 minutes from work.. worked 8-5 and slept 4 hours a day.. that has all changed now lol.

Anyway 75hrs a week yes that is pushing it a little but is more possible when it is stated SPENDING TIME WITH.. rather than just assuming Gaming only.

10 hours every day of the week for 7 days
= 10 * 7
= 7

Brilliant!!! NASA is accepting applications right now. Don't delay!!!

And just as brilliant: "every day of the week for 7 days"... Like some weeks have less...

:-D

You really have to wonder how long they knew before they admitted it:

November 2005 - the console was launched
By 2006 - the problem was widespread
July 2007 - they admitted the problem and implemented the warranty extension - the better part of 2 years after release.

This suggests that they would have known about the design flaw - it's not a manufacturing flaw it's a design flaw - at least a year before the warranty extension was announced.

Now the thing is - it may have taken them a year to fix the design flaw - so possibly it wasn't just them phaffing around ignoring the problem!

Yeah up front. Up front on my 4th deck b%$ch! My buddy on his 3rd and my nephew on his 2nd (he's only had it two months). And they were so up front on my 1st exchange before they implemented the warranty that I had to get the BBB involved and contact local Seattle news outlets before they would exchange it.

F*$k MS!
Sony needs content!
