It was unfortunate that we had some hardware challenges but I totally applaud the way the company dealt with that in being up-front and implementing the warranty. It's unfortunate when anything you create fails, but consumers have appreciated the fact we've said: 'This is a mistake, and this is how we're going to fix it'.
You really have to wonder how long they knew before they admitted it:
November 2005 - the console was launched
By 2006 - the problem was widespread
July 2007 - they admitted the problem and implemented the warranty extension - the better part of 2 years after release.
This suggests that they would have known about the design flaw - it's not a manufacturing flaw it's a design flaw - at least a year before the warranty extension was announced.
Now the thing is - it may have taken them a year to fix the design flaw - so possibly it wasn't just them phaffing around ignoring the problem!
