An Uncrackable Lock? - Quantum Cryptology Chip
Posted by XanTium | August 6 00:38 EST | News Category: GamingGeneral
From popsci.com: [QUOTE] Imagine an encrypted data chip so secure that even the greatest hackers in history would find impossible to crack. That chip is very much a reality thanks to the combined efforts of Siemens, Austrian Research Centers (ARC) and Graz University of Technology who have teamed up to create the first quantum cryptology chip for commercial use to ensure securer electronic communication.
The lock protects data using a random sequence of numbers from light particles. At the moment, data is protected using a key distribution system based on mathematical algorithms. But, with enough time and effort, those algorithms can be cracked. The quantum cryptographic light lock, on the other hand, takes advantage of the laws of nature by using photons--individual light particles--to create completely random codes through an optical array. Not to say i know what there talking, about, i have a small idea, it sounds pretty cool where technology is goen, i can forsee a HUGE jump in power in the next few years.. should be interesting

I like the article I read today that said pioneer is saying 500GB BD's is a possibility. Hope quantum computing isn't too much farther away! And ya, I just can't believe that anything is uncrackable.
For now? Sure, but that doesn't mean that it wont be easy for a good hardware hacker in 5 years.

Haven't we learned anything about calling something uncrackable? We once had an unsinkable ship too and just look what happened to it.
agreed.
"uncrackable" - nothing will ever be in the true sense of the word as every process or design has a weakest link or rate-limiting step so to speak. however, the actual lock keys could be "virtually impossible" to obtain if generated by the random actions of photons. but there is more to cracking a lock than just obtaining the "keys."

Watch, they are all going to be like, "You can't crack this!! HAHAHA!!! You guys lose!!", and then someone will come out with some simple hack that gets around the "Uncrackable chip".

no doubt...hacks never seem to be straight on....it's always seems to be via a short cut through a dark alley

exactly what i tell everyone of my friends and the community lol nothing is impossible and nothing is uncrackable so like always with newz like this i refuse to beleive its uncrackable people should learn everything has a weakness

wasn't that article pretty much repeated verbatim compared to the uncrackable lock that is on apple pc's currently. I seem to remember how they were saying it would never be cracked only apple hardware will run os/x because of this uncrackable lock.
point being, if you have keys someone will find them. brute forcing stuff is in the past and this tends to be what the writers want to refer to. most of the idiots who write these articles base their opinions on what they learned from the movie hackers.
