Microsoft: 'The Wii third party game story is not a pretty one'
Posted by XanTium | August 11 11:40 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
Last week, Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Denise Kai(info)gler, defended the Wii's third party sales saying, "We are selling third party games and they are doing very well, and better than our competitors."

But according to NPD information obtained from Microsoft by GamesIndustry.biz, that Nintendo claim appears to be wrong:
* Total third party sales for the Xbox 360 since launch is currently 67,929,999 units, followed by the Wii at 33,394,311 units and the PlayStation 3 at 19,976,325 units.
* Third party sales for the Xbox 360 since the launch of the Wii and PS3 is 54,065,728 units, still almost double the Wii's 33,394,311 units.
* If you take the total number of units sold and divide that by the number of titles released since November 2006, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are selling more units per title on average than the Wii. This puts the Xbox 360 at 217,252 units per title, the PS3 at 156,065 units and the Wii at 132,517 units.

MS is sure quick lately with the press releases that point out all these flaws about other consoles. Thanks MS but my 360 still RRODs and your sales are still dropping. Your DVDs are running out of space and you still don't allow true hard disk installs for most games (which allow streaming data from the drive and the hard disk at the same time). Your wireless adapter is still $100 extra and you're charging way too much for your hard drives. The Wii is not a fad, the PS3 is creeping up on you, you can't secure enough exclusives and your 1st party game prospects aren't that exciting compared to Nintendo's and even Sony's. XBLA is getting boring. Even GFW is not doing well, and while Live is free on there it's not on 360. So shut up and fix your own problems before you start whining about the competition, which everyone knows you're just trying to make them look bad because you're not leading in America and you're losing consumer mindshare. It's bad when you try to promote your own console by taking a shaky dump on the competition instead of being able to be positive about your own product.

Wii will sell a lot more 3rd party games when they get good and get serious about promotion. 360s are probably inflated by a lot of burger king games that people want to finish just to get a higher score.

It makes sense though. The 360 attracts games that buy games. The downside of of the wii, is it attracts casual gamers, people who aren't going to buy alot of games.

That being said Nintendo was making cash off the console itself since day 1. They must be making money hand over fist. If that's true, and the 3rd party makers aren't making as much on wii titles as other consoles, they could probably just lower their licensing fees to be competitive?

As for the previous post about all the 360 flaws. I agree on most of them. However they'res probably only a few years left in this console cycle, so I don't really see the ps3 having enough time left to destroy the 360. Maybe catch up and keep it close, but not really blow it out of the water.

So many things wrong in this post its unreal. If you really want people to listen to you then maybe not making a fanboy rant would be the place to start?

You obviously HATE MS and the 360, so why are you the first one posting? (cough TROLL!!!! cough)
also you state that your console RRODS all the time, might I suggest you send it back for repair then it will stop doing that. IF it does continue to RROD then might you take at look at what YOU are doing with the console that your so unlucky that every console you get RRODS. Im not saying there wasnt a problem, but its a problem that has for the most part been dealt with.

Also you take about MS over priced wireless gadget, but you dont have a problem with the over priced PS3??? or ANY of its over priced remotes joypads blah blah blah. Here in the UK I can pick up a wireless 360 joypad (that rumbles) for under 30 quid. PS3 rumble pad 45 quid. Im not saying that MS are any better Im saying that all these console people have stuff that could be better and to say that one does and then other doesnt is simply untrue and smacks of 5 year old fan boy guff.

I used to have a Wii and having money to burn I bought ALOT of games for it. out of over 50 games I could count maybe 5 that were worth the money. Wii can be fun for people over blah blah blah, it is something different which I think we can all agree is a good thing, but while nintendo has made some good use of the Wiimote 3rd party companies have not faired so well, and for nintendo to say that they are beating the competition in 3rd party sales is just fooking stupid. What 3rd party title on nintendo has sold more than gears of war? or metal gear solid? or grand theft auto? these have been the must have 3rd party titles for 360 and PS3. What must have 3rd party title does the Wii have? NONE it all in house games that people want. This is what MS was responding too the same way that I am responding to you. Yes MS felt the need to make a statement about the lies nintendo were spreading. YES I said lies, because again ALL!!!!!! companies do it, they lie and cheat and steal for us the gamer.

Perhaps one day you will see that it not sony Vs MS, its me and you Vs sony and MS. If you and I dont buy at the stupid price points then they wont sell at the stupid price points.

No doubt any and all of what I'm saying will be misunderstood picked apart blah blah blah so have fun with your retarded fanboy flame war and I've left grammer and speeling mistakes so you have something to pick apart, I know how much you fan boys love to do that.

Hard to make sales(wii) when all your games are trash, except maybe 5-6 games that are actually good to play. The wii is just a fad, it will die out. Just a new controller gimmick. Nothing else. Its just a gamecube with a special remote controller. People want them because Nintendo cant produce enough systems for the whole world or fake demands and have consoles piling up in a warehouse and only ship so many a week to create a fake demand. People will play the wii once or twice then it rots under their TV for the months to come..

Sure the 360 RRoDs but, at least I have more then 20 games for the system I like. PS3 makes a nice bluray player and has a few ok games.

I own all 3 systems, I use my 360 most, followed by my PS3 and Wii is last. The last game I bought for it was Mario Kart. Nothing else worth buying.

***A note to all, before you drop $40-50 on a Wii game, try it first. Go to gamestop and buy a used copy and if you don't like it you can return it in 7 days. There is a lot of shitty Wii games out there. Probably 85-90% of the library of games is trash, to kiddy, or have crappy controls or all of the above.

And yet, the games still suck.

My son wasn't old enough for a gamecube years ago, but now at 5, he loves Mariocart to death. I've had a pretty good time playing that too. But even he realizes that the other games aren't any fun. Sonic, ant bully, and a few others all aren't even worth playing. He spends more time playing his xbox1 with the slough of games it has than the wii crap.

If the Wii is a fad, then it's the most popular and most self-sustaining fad in a long time. Also, yes, the 3rd party sales as a whole (when you go back as far as the system's launch) are not that great, but as of now they're pretty f'n great.

I guess the question is, is in the next gen, if sony and MS include motion control in their controllers (the ps3 already does, it just doesn't get used to much).

will nintendo be able to do it again? lower quality console with innovative controller? can that work twice in a row. Its not hard for the other companies to include it with their consoles.

The Wii is super popular, but it'll be interesting to see what happens with its replacement.

I think people don't understand what the word Fad means. I look at it like this, the wii is kinda like the iphone. People that have a clue about phones and what they can do, stay away from them. People that have a clue about video games stay away from the wii. Nintendo should be ashamed of them selves allowing so much crap ware to pass through with their seal of approval. They put out more junk that you can imagine. Hell most of the games even by nintendo suck really. The best games on the Wii are games that really honestly suck. I mean wii sports, wii fit? Gimme a break. What did they hire some geezer to pull out some of his old notes to make those games? Only reason they are fun is because of the controller. The wii will only last if they keep putting out this crap that non-gamers want to play once every blue moon. The wii is kinda like that crap the supermarket puts near the cash registers as your leaving the place. I bet that stuff sells more than anything. Does that mean in any way that its better than anything else in the store? How about the silly toys in those gumball machines. I bet those out sell most stuff in the mall. Does that make them better in any way. I honestly give the wii one more Christmas.

I think M$ is dead on with their numbers. The bottom line is that the 360 is what is really pushing the market. No matter what the giizers say and the fanboys claim. Its just a fact.

I think that Nintendo likely has low third party sales due to the fact that the system is targeted for casuals, and includes the one game most casuals are interested in, Wii Sports.

I hear so many people who arent games who buy the Wii just for the novelty of it. And apparently, because of the Wiis ridiculous hardware sales, theres a lot of people like that.

That or Nintendo is making bank off the Virtual Console/Wii Ware

Wasn't it obvious that Nintendo's 3'rd party sales chart was flawed? So flawed that it included
first party tittles! huh.gif

I can't believe some people here have a problem with Microsoft disputing a 3'rd party sales chart that includes 1'st party games.

Bottom line is M$ is right on this one.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl from GameArts sold well, so did Sonic and Mario from Sega. Then you have Hudson's Mario Part 8.

Third party Wii games sell great, as long as they star Mario.

But, despite all your comments here about what the Wii/360/Ps3 is or isn't is, Nintendo is still smiling all the way to the bank. And that my friends, is a fact!!!
