Lite-On IT Expected to Ship 5M Xbox 360 DVD Drives in 3Q08
Posted by XanTium | August 14 22:58 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From digitimes.com:
[QUOTE]
Lite-On IT has benefited from increasing sales of Xbox 360 consoles following Microsoft's lowering of prices and is expected to ship five million DVD-ROM drives for Xbox 360s in the third quarter of 2008, according to Lite-On's component suppliers.

Lite-On's monthly shipment volume of Xbox 360 DVD-ROM drives will exceed 1.5 million units this month, and the total volume for the whole quarter will reach five million units, the sources estimated.

Some serious bucks there. We all hope to have some progress with the Lite-on flashing. I'm not holding my breath for Team Xecuter to sort it out as they seem to be waiting for C4Eva to help them so they can reap the profits by manufacturing a modchip... either way it would be really nice.. there is only so many sub 816 lot numbered consoles left in the world sad.gif

Anyone know the comparison between Lite-On and other drive? Speed, noise, etc?

AFAIK, the "Line-On" drives are the same as the previous versions, which were called "BenQ" except they are supposed to be unhackable.

probably more like irritated. with the 360 still basically locked in reference to homebrew (to the masses at least), hacking DVD drives poses much less of a problem than with the original xbox hacking and so while they are sure enjoying that the Lite-on is still locked, even when it falls, it won't be much of a big deal.

Gotta disagree with you there. I'm sure in Microsofts eyes, firmware hacking is just as damaging as a full on system attack. Both result in millions lost through piracy. I fail to see how either is different in this respect.

Infact, homebrew alone can actually be good for system sales, just look at the original Xbox and XBMC.

I agree. I think MS would actually be less concerned about a Homebrew only hack (Theoretical only). Piracy is the target

yea exactly homebrew would probly boost sales where piracy is whats killing them thats why they been trying so hard at getting new dvd drives in there but the thing is that no matter what they do its gonna get hacked plain and simple it may take timebut it will happen

If you have the date right, it's probably a BenQ (they look the same unless you open up the console). AFAIK, the Lite-On wasn't released until March.
