60GB Xbox 360 Reaches Australia Today
Posted by XanTium | August 17 21:59 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From palgn.com.au:
[QUOTE]
The newly revised Xbox 360 Pro console will be hitting Australian retailers today, following on from its recent release in Europe and North America.

The price of the new Pro console won't change, with it still coming in at a recommended retail price of $499. The unit still comes with all the stuff in the old model - headset, ethernet cable, HD AV cable and, of course, a controller. The pricing of the Elite and Arcade bundles won't change either, remaining at $349 and $649 respectively.

actually, none of the SKU's here come with a headset, they come with the dvd remote instead. i guess microsoft think were not going to be using live, probably the same reason our live service sucks

Obviously these are AUD not USD!

$349AUD is roughly what we pay in the UK for an Arcade (converts to £163GBP, about £3 more). The Elite on the other hand is far too expensive, a staggering £53 more than we pay in the UK.

You're right tho - PAL owners are still being fleeced, regardless of the continent we're on!

buy a ps3 and not get ripped? the PS3 only two months ago lowered it's price from $1000 to $700, because no fcking idiot was buying them for $1000.

oh and for the dumb fckers on this site that have no clue there are other countries other than the USA, the AUD against the USD is about even.

PS3 60gb was $1000, then they dropped that and made the 40gb $700... That was around 6 months ago, not 2 months ago.

Damo, you're a tool. Whether it was 2 months ago, 3 months ago, 4 months ago, it doesn't really matter. The point was that for an equal dollar we are getting fcking ripped off.

Firstly, you dont need to get so angry.

Secondly, the AUD may have been very close to the USD for a few months, but its back down to about .88:1, so while its close, its not about even. It'll be back to .75:1 soon.

So no, they're not that close.

Im not saying im ignorant to other countries, the first post i commented on cost...it wasnt stated what pricing it was, it just had $499, no way to tell if he was referring to AUS/US/CAN costs...

but yea the difference between AUS/US/CA as of 2:20pm monday 18th

499.00 AUD = 434.462 USD

499.00 AUD = 462.181 CAD

Most people seem to forget that Australian prices all includes 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST). US prices do not include state and federal taxes.

The 360 Arcade console is actually cheaper in Australia than in the US.

But the Wii is 30% over priced and the PS3 is 50% over priced.

The 360 is good value.

It is the Pro and Elite that rip you here.

The arcade at AUD$349 comes in at AUD$317 ex GST which is what, about USD$275 so it is about a wash
The Pro at AUD$499 is AUD$454 ex GST so is about USD$395 (vs USD$349) so US$50 more and no headset.
The elite at AUD$649 = AUD$590 ex GST which is USD$513 (vs USD$449) so nearly USD$65 more than it sells for in the US.

So leaving out taxes (is there really no hidden tax on the console in the US?) we pay:

The same for the Arcade,
$50 more for the pro and
$65 more for the Elite.

New release games are often AUD$100 or a bit more, which comes in at USD$91 so we get screwed on the games.

The PS3 @ AUD$599 is USD$544, not sure how that compares to the US price of the console, but The elite here costs $50 *MORE* than a PS3 and it comes with Bluray and wireless, I'm surprised the elite sells at all here.

I'm propably the only one here that is glad we a get a remote, although I did go and buy a headset anyway.
