Movie and TV Show FanArt support in XBMC
Posted by XanTium | August 23 17:53 EST | News Category: Xbox

From xbmc.org:
[QUOTE]
Many of the latest skins for XBMC are now supporting the recently added XBMC feature that is FanArt backdrops. Skins such as Aeon, Focus, MediaStream, and even the default Project Mayhem III, all feature FanArt backdrop support. We think that FanArt really enhances the look and feel of XBMC skins, especially when combined with the not so new ability to download posters, banners, and screenshots directly from XBMC.

Our sincere thanks goes to Scott Zsori (a.k.a. szsori) of TheTVDB.com and MovieBackdrops.com for providing us with a direct API to all the data on his websites, so that getting FanArt backdrops into XBMC is now easier than ever. TheTVDB.com and MovieBackdrops.com are both user driven sites which let anyone upload and share FanArt, posters, banners, screenshots, and meta data information of their favorite TV shows and Movies. So again, thank you Scott! Our thanks also goes out to everyone who contribute artwork and information to these websites.

Team-XBMC encourage you all to visit both TheTVDB.com and MovieBackdrops.com, register to upload, and help maintain the content. Sharing your artwork with others through these websites makes it possible for people to enjoy XBMC even more.

It's pretty much what it sounds like. When you browse into a TV show you get a high resolution image in the background for that specific show. For movies it's when you highlight the particular movie that the backdrop changes to scaled poster or something similar in the background.

It's a great feature, looks great.

Wow, very sexy progress. I can't wait to try them out...

Off Topic (sorta): is there a prime central place that has all the latest skins? Allxboxskins and xbox-skins.net is kinda outdated...

Yes, check out the skin SVN link in my sig. You'll want a SVN client (such as Tortoise SVN) to grab the files.

Thanks for answering.

The Pictures look great, it seems that this feature helps to know the show without reading anything, great for an HTPC or XBMC.

I hope that those background are catched in XBMC because i don't know who will pay for all the bandwith that requires this service.

Anyway, nice feature... biggrin.gif

So you can just set it up to pull down these backdrops automagically when you add content to your xbox? Or is it a manual thing?

I downloaded the latest build of xbmc which came bundled with the MediaStream skin and it looks awesome smile.gif. It's all automatic, all I had to do was use the set content option and all the thumbnails and fan art was downloaded for me. The only disappointment with the MediaStream skin is it's too detailed with very small text that is almost impossible to read/navigate on my standard def 32" TV sad.gif . Even with the skin zoomed it's not quite big enough so I'm back to the default xbmc skin which has no fan art background feature as far as I'm aware.

The Focus link appears broken. I get "Sorry no posts matched your criteria" at XBMC.org

Does this work in PM3? I tried using that MediaStream skin and there appeared to be missing thumbnails and other odd things with the last build?

You can always increase the font size in "font.xml" located in the 720p folder of the skin.
