This happens all the time here. I don't know why anyone would really care. Only way it would hurt is the smart consumers who knew about the price drop would hold off buying, but also they could try to get a price adjustment within a certain time period if stores allowed it.

Since the ads and hence info about the price cuts were their doing, they're the ones who leaked the info. What did they think would happen? What a bunch of bone heads, and who engages a conference just to announce price cuts alone? All they think about is sales and money, there's no one there to think the plan out.

I agree with Rickets06... Who holds a press conference only to announce a price cut? I mean lets say it wasn't even leaked. Not very press conference worthy is it? You could just throw it up on a website and move on.
