Microsoft: Xbox 360 sales surge on price cut
Posted by XanTium | September 10 19:26 EST | News Category: Xbox360
From seattlepi.nwsource.com:
Microsoft said today that Xbox 360 sales rose significantly following the price cuts announced by the company last week. The company said retailers are reporting that sales of the video-game console increased more than 100 percent over the weekend, compared with the prior weekend.
Of course, it remains to be seen if those bumps will be temporary or lasting.
Will be interesting to see if the bump is sustained. The price cut was such a poorly kept secret that a lot of people who would have bought in the prior month would have waited and then purchased on the weekend. There will also be a spike in existing 360 owners replacing their dead consoles. After that it will be interesting to see if the $199 price point is enough to win a new type of buyer over to the 360.

Even my cheap ass got one on the weekend in question. I happened to have extra money when I saw news of the price cut. Bummer that it had a lite-on DVD drive. It was a impulse buy. If I had an older 360 I wouldn't have had to buy another DVD drive and parts for a rs232 converter. I probably won't even try live until more is known about DVD drive spoofing. Maybe I will make some kind of switch to use the lite-on only for live + originals, and still use the Xtreme for backups + dumping.... maybe if I could find an HD-DVD casing and could make it look nice? or maybe Xbox 1 Xtender style.. remember?

The price is nice, but I'm waiting until the Jasper boards become commonly available. My current unit has RRoD twice on me already (the GPU both times). I've repaired it and upgraded the cooling (this time) but I still doubt it will be the last unit I buy.

Doubt they included the uk in their sales figures, we still pay £150 for the arcade console which works out roughly $260-270 us dollars, uk customers are getting shafted up the arse as usual!! They would have to drop the uk price to £115 for the arcade pack to equal the us $200 mark.

i will be getting another 360 simply to get the hdmi connection to reduce all the wiring crap in my theater - and it was this nice new price point that has allowed me to do just that...
