Peter Moore about his Career at Microsoft
Posted by XanTium | September 15 22:43 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From mcvuk.com:
[QUOTE]
"The highlight of my career so far has been being part of the creation, launch and success of the Xbox 360 platform, comprising the best integration of hardware, software and services the industry has seen to date," he explains.

"What we did at Microsoft during that period was not perfect - nothing that complex ever is. We all agonised over the quality issues that some of our consumers were experiencing, but I was proud that the company took a very bold - and expensive - position to rectify the issues and make good on the problems we had caused for those who experienced hardware problems."

"We were planning the investment levels it would take to make a serious run at the top spot in the next generation, whilst seemingly making a hundred decisions a week," he adds. "It is with pride that I can say I was a part of that team."

I love this bald man. I think he made a good connection with the gaming community. Love the scene of him playing the guitar for the rock band intro. Classic

Bold my arse.

It should have been a product recall, and they took far too long to extend the warranty. Many of us already had to resort to our own fix as the warranty had expired and MS refused to fix the console for free even though they knew it was a problem that was not the user's fault. Those of us that attempted a fix were then excluded from the extended warranty.

The delay in extending the warranty, and not issuing a recall saved them millions and screwed over the early adopters that made their console a success.

I don't care what they make now, I'm not buying it.
I love my gaming, but I will get it elsewhere. I know that means I miss some good titles, but so be it. Nobody should be proud of the way they screwed consumers, lied and denied.

Are you honestly trying to say that Microsoft should allow people, who potentially don't have a clue what they are doing and "have just seen it on the internet" to do repairs which may or may not work, and then carry on the warranty?!
I honestly can't see how Microsoft, or any other company would allow this, regardless of whether the warranty is up, and then they extend it.As soon as you open your machine, you know that you are invalidating your warranty. Its fully understandable and sensible what Microsoft did

He is not saying that! Read it over and use your brain! He is not angry that they will not fix consoles that have been opened by the user, he is mad that they took so long to do it and not giving any advance warning! They should have implemented the extended warranty as soon as they knew because no one that got the RROD back then knew that Microsoft was going to extend the warranty so they thought that they had nothing to lose by trying to fix it and, as a result, wasted hundreds of dollars and that is not understandable or sensible, just greedy and careless! Idiot!

he was commenting on his comment about M$ bullshit warranty extension as being bold.

Bold would have been admitting to the problem early, and recalling and fixing the DESIGN FLAW.

Who's an idiot? At the end of the day most of us have taken our 360 apart and did something to it at some point. But what we are sure of is even now, there hasnt been a totally definative fix for the 3RROD.There are some people that get it working one way, others get it working their way, hence all the diff versions that are on the net of how to fix it.
While Microsoft did take far too long to sort it, and they deffo needed to extent the warranty in order to please the customers. But, the point I was trying to make is, we all like to fettle around with things, and curiosity killed the cat, and by trying to fix it in our own ways, we therefore removed all resonsibilty from Microsoft for the fault. And I'm not saying for a minute that everyone should have just accepted it, and just let their year old console sit gathering dust because its FUBAR'd.
Microsoft did what most companies do when theres a problem, wait and see how big a problem it is, and try and get a fix for it.I reckon it probably took MS just as long to find a definate fix for it, as it took the rest of us.While the answer was to just fire in new motherboards, its all down to cost, and as we all know, MS aren't excactly known for their generosity to customers, and would have been trying to find the cheapest, crappest, quick fix they could, but in the end had to admit defeat and pay up.But that must make me an idiot as well for saying that eh?
