Rumor: 'furious' MS brought forward EU price drop
Posted by XanTium | September 16 19:56 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamer.tm:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft was forced to bring forward its European 360 price cut following the now notorious Woolworths leak, a source has said.

While the new price points came as no surprise, it seems that last week's very public Woolworths catalogue leak - which showed the revised prices - forced Microsoft to bring forward the announcement.

As one industry insider revealed to us yesterday, Microsoft had been due to announce the price cut (along with a new Bungie game) at a rumoured European event next week.

So the article also states, Microsoft is "furious about the incident." And with good reason.

So they wanted to dick some more European folks for money for a couple more weeks, BEFORE they announced a pricecut. Nice dry.gif

I believe a lot of stores have price adjustments if the price of a certain item drops in price within a few weeks. Companies are usually mad at leaks because they want to be the ones to announce it and MS seems more mad at this because they have an event set up to make this announcement along with others. Now to some people a price drop is a price drop so they don't care where the news comes from, but to company PR, with an even set up, these are the type of things they want to announce and try to generate excitement from.

It's the 21st century. The longer you're going to sit on something, the higher the odds it gets leaked. CD's, DVD's, video games all get leaked onto the internet before release date. Why would they think a price cut wouldn't. The internet allows for the rapid dissemination of Information.

If you don't want something to leak, don't sit on it.

the US price drops were leaked almost a month in advance but, MS didn't confirm it until the week before. so, MS not being able to wait another week seems unlikely.

should have scheduled that even a little sooner.

Should have just dropped it across the board all at the same time.

I can't believe that all you guys are talking about is MS being pissed about the leak. The bigger news in that update is the Bungie game announcement. Wonder what it could be.

probably some sort of Halo-based tactical shooter, perhaps something where you take control of an ODST unit.

but people are right, MS has no decent reason to be furious, people expect a price drop when they drop standard prices in other parts of the world, it's just fair treatment.
just convert the standard retail prices in europe to dollars and Americans will understand why europeans are pissed at MS and other publishers their prices for things.

now if only they'd reduce the standard retail price for games a notch, to a realistic price.

Is it wierd for me to think that the price is too low? I look at the Arcade version being £130 and think "wow, something must be wrong with it". Don't get me wrong, its fantastic, but just seems like they have dropped a bit too early (guess that explains the anger....)

1+

For now MS price drops leaked long before the official announcement, if they wanted to announce it later (with that bungie game), they would have waited until then.

Seems like that quote, it's only someone's opinion... only that.

i think you've missed the point of this story. Price Drop is the exact opposite of "Price rise" smile.gif

But...I agree! What's up with bungie?

Huh...how has MS shafted Foreign contries?

The whole redistribution mindset bugs me. You arent always entitled to what everyone else has. If specific products arent available in AU it is likely that the market isnt strong enough for it or there are road blocks.
If MS would profit they would provide everything.

how can a market become stronger if you keep witholding products from them or overpricing them? that's shooting yourself in the foot if you want to boost the sales of your product, something not only game publishers but also the OPEC fails to understand, so it seems.

what road blocks? if I recall our age rating organisations are far less prudish than the ESRB
