Okay, I just did the first XBOX 360, it was a success.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Materials: (Australia) |
Blu Tack (Bought from local supermarket) |
Aluminium Foil |
Oven Bags |
Metal Thread Screws M5 x 15mm (Local Bunnings [Hardware Store] ) |
Spring Washers 1/4" (Local Bunnings [Hardware Store] ) |
Machine Washers 3\16" (Local Bunnings [Hardware Store] ) |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cleaning the CPU and GPU until it's shiny:

Covering in Blu-Tak:

Covering it with two layers of Oven Bags (Cut to fit):

Covered with Aluminium Foil. (Use blu-tak to hold them down, and electrical tape for underside.)

AFTER HEATGUNNING: (Let it cool for 45 minutes)

Removing the foil:

Removing the Blu-Tak.

Revealing the oven wrap under the foil, - It does wonders, and doesn't melt. the Blu-tak also, it basically turns the motherboard into a heat gun-proof, no amount of heat would be able to make the caps bow or blow up. (Recommended method.)

The caps after the heatgun, seems untouched, just perfect. smile.gif

The caps:

Now apply some electrical tape to the screw holes (For people who doesn't have nylon washers.)

Make a hole out of it, using an stanley / exacto knife:

Should look like this:, The back should have it as well.

Arctic Silver for thermal paste:

Spring Washers + 1 Machine Washer for back:
http://www.images.t3chline.com/P8190040.JPG

Putting on the heatsink to bolt down:
http://www.images.t3chline.com/P8190041.JPG

Should be done by now:

Now drill the holes into the casing, to accommodate for the screws, (To avoid the motherboard flexing in the middle, (where the screws touch the case, needs room to protrude) - I use drill bits, starting from small, gradually to bigger bits for this.

Should fit perfectly by now:

Voila!

Hope this helps. (Credit goes to Willhelm for first coming up with the idea of proper isolation)

Basically, the plastic foil is only mostly found in packaging (correct me if I'm wrong), although this method which I have tried has been the most heat - proof and seems excellent from protecting sensitive parts of the motherboard.

Blu - Tak is an putty adhesive that you put your posters / papers etc stick on the wall. (Common in Office stores and supermarkets)

- Oven bags can be retrieved from any supermarket pretty much.

Nice tutorial, the question I have is how does that blue tak stuff act when its time to take it off. Like does it harden up on the capacitators or leave nasty residue, etc after heatgunning?

Not really, acts the same as before if anything, a teensy bit sticky maybe, just "dab" it off with a blob of blu tak in your hand.

It won't cause anything nasty and pretty easy to take off.
