NXE - What You Want to Know: Games Store
Posted by XanTium | October 3 18:26 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From the Xbox PR Blog:
[QUOTE]
Let's face it. The number one reason you turn on your Xbox 360 is for the games, and the team creating the New Xbox Experience certainly didn't forget about that. This week we wanted to share with you what the Games Store will look like later this fall when the New Xbox Experience launches.
Current Games Store | New Xbox Experience
Xbox NXE Games Store Xbox NXE Games Store

Today, when you look at a particular game in the Game Store you get a pretty basic list of information: name of the game or piece of content, ESRB rating, price and a short explanation of what it is. Check out the screens above to see. That information is really useful, but with the New Xbox Experience we thought we could give you even more.
Current Games Store | New Xbox Experience

Here's a snapshot: When you go into the new Games Store this fall, you will be able to check out screenshots of the game, watch trailers and read the back-of-the-box description like you are shopping at a retail store. The Games Store will also display every available download for the game you are looking for. Let's say you are looking at "Gears of War 2," you will have all available Gears of War 2 options easily accessible such as: previews, trailers, gamerpics, themes, game add ons, game images. You'll never need to search for the content you want.

Now you will get all of the information you want about the games you want to play, in one easy-to-navigate place right there on your TV.

Like we said... the games are the top reason why you turn on your Xbox 360, and this fall we will make the gaming experience even better.

Will we be able to read the description faster than George Bush wearing boxing gloves?

That would be nice.

I don't think I'll be able to get used to the new iPod Touch style dashboard.

its looking good so far but there still not right yes most people do game on there 360 but what about entertainment such as more codecs and better visuals and equilizers for music and other things and even add ons to visit youtube yes its great for gaming but the 360 is a powerhouse and microsoft is not using it to its full potential

Despite what others say, i think this new dash looks great. I always thought the old dash looked too cartoony and aimed more at children. While the new one still looks big and colourful, it looks a bit more like a media center and not aimed at kids so much.... But then again i suppose once your little Mii style character starts popping up its back to its "aimed at kids" feel.

Well yeah, since they don't want to give us mkv support, I mostly use the XB360 for games and the Xbox 1 for Xvid/Divx videos. The XB 360 isn't really useful to me as a mediaplayer. sad.gif

Although it makes me angry i dont blame them for not supporting mkv. If they did start to support mkv they would probably lose alot of people renting HD movies from the marketplace and im quite sure they are aware of that.

Why on earth would Microsoft support some open source video format/codec or whatever it is on their system? That makes no sense at all.

Xvid is open source and is supported by the Xbox 360. So your theory is flawed. rolleyes.gif
Regardless, i dont believe the Xbox 360 will ever support mkv.

MKV support isn't interesting: you can just use MP4Box to transtainer MKVs into MP4s.

The real killer is the 360's complete lack of subtitle support.

---

FWIW: MP4 and MKV are containers, not 'video formats', 'codecs', or 'whatevers'. If you know the terminology, it makes it look like you know what you're talking about.

MKV support would be reason #1 for me to run to the next electro store and buy me a 360.

Unfortunately the Xbox1 isnt powerful enough to handle most of the MKV stuff esp. HD.

And I seriously dont want to convert everything cause it sucks.

PS3 could esily get a sale boost if they put MKV codec inside. Guess the best way atm is to set up a htpc.

Comeon dawg, we need MKV support....

E: ok after MrFish is such a smartass I put x264 instead of every "MKV"
