Xbox LIVE Poll 2: The Voice of an Xbox Generation
Posted by XanTium | October 10 01:37 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From the Microsoft press release:
[QUOTE]
Xbox LIVE has already proven an undeniable gauge of the youth vote in this historic election, polling nearly 100,000 members of the Xbox LIVE community and providing a lens into the political mindset of an important and engaged group of citizens. Now, as Americans count down to the moment of a generation, Xbox LIVE is providing a vehicle for millions to make their voices heard. Continuing its partnership with Rock the Vote, beginning today Xbox LIVE will conduct a second poll, giving its members a chance to speak their minds on the most important issues facing them, their families and their country. The results will be submitted on behalf of Xbox 360 to the Obama and McCain camps:
* Education and Cost of Schooling
* Environment and Global Warming
* Gas Prices
* Healthcare
* Iraq
* Jobs and the Economy

As registration deadlines across the country draw near, Microsoft also continues its landmark effort to help register new voters using the power of the LIVE community. To date more than 65,000 registration forms have been distributed, and half a million pieces of election-specific content downloaded - nearly equal to the population of Washington D.C.

Stay tuned as the 14 million members of Xbox LIVE speak up, and depict a vision of America through the eyes of its youth.

I'd have to agree with that, but assuming MS could breakdown the demographics inside XBL to say between ages 18-25, they'd have a very useful poll.

A useful poll of what? People that think with their heart and not their head?
It'd be about as useful as an MTV poll.
I mean, you are talking about a huge section of America that has no idea what democrat and republican are supposed to be in the first place.
They hear democrats talking about helping the middle class and the poor, and pro environment , save the whales hippie stuff...
You also hear of republicans giving tax breaks to the rich and corporations, wanting to drill for oil on our soil, bad, evil, blah, blah.
What no one ever points out is that Democrats are for LARGE government and Republicans are for SMALL government. (Libertarians are for as little government as humanly possible...just thought I'd throw that in since that's what I am... tongue.gif)
The ideal democrat solution is a federal gov. that takes care of everyone...nice thought...but where does the money to pay for such a thing come from? Oh right...TAXES. And if you think only the rich would be taxed highly, think again....they got rich by being clever with their money. Taxes go up, rich cut back, fewer new jobs, the amount of tax revenue decreases, tax goes up on everyone. It's always worked that way.
The ideal republican solution is a state powered government. More of a free market. Capitalism. Less government involvement. And less government means fewer things to pay for.....which leads to lower taxes.

Now IF you've bothered to read this diatribe, you might be confused and say "There's not any republican I can think of that thinks it should work that way...."
Yeah....I know....very sad when a party doesn't even know what it really stands for.

Anyway, my point was, ANY poll between 18-25 is going to swing to the democratic side. And guess what? It's been that way for at least the past 100 years. I'm not going to quote that saying....which by the way was never actually said by Winston Churchill but rather François Guizot. As people get older they, generally, turn republican. Bet if you did a poll of 50-65 you'd get a poll that swings republican....

Anyway...I guess that was a lot to type when I could have easily said, "Taking a poll of that age group to find out anything other than if they are well informed is useless."

oh...and if someone wants, for some reason to flame, please ignore my tendency to end in prepositions....in fact all the grammar....it's...uh....Colloquial....yeah....that's it.... tongue.gif
