The game itself probably isn't that big. Its all the cut scene pre-rendered cgi crap and 7.1 soundtracks that companies think we need that bump up games sizes. Then they flash us with all these pre-rendered scenes on trailers, at game shows, in tv ads, magazine ads. Then you play the game and the actual gameplay never looks as good. I rather have real-time generated cutscenes that use actually game elements and engines so the transition is nice between the two.
Am not sure whether you are aware - as far as I can see, ALL graphics in MGS4 - both cutscenes and gameplay - are in-game, and hence at the same resolution. In-game, if you look closely at Snake or anything else, you will notice the same clarity as during the cut-scene. What you are saying is probably hearsay from 360-favouring forums.
