U.S. Games-Per-Console Ratio Shows Xbox 360 Shooting Ahead
Posted by XanTium | October 22 14:19 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
According to NPD data and analysis compiled by Gamasutra, the XBox 360's tie ratio -- a comparison of software units sold for every hardware unit -- is now 8.1 to 1, overtaking the Wii and PlayStation 3's significantly lower tie ratios.

Referring to the lifetime-to-date tie ratios above, one can infer that each Xbox 360 owner has purchased on average 8.1 games, while Wii owners have purchased 5.5 games, and PS3 owners have purchased 5.3 games. As with any average, it is a statement about the aggregate, not the individual.

Not sure how this is happening... There's really not much that's appearing on 360 compared to the other systems... Exclusivity is going away... What are people buying on the 360 exactly? On the all of the software sales charts across the world, it doesn't seem like there are a lot of 360 titles in the top 5-10... Are there a lot of cheap bargain bin games or something?

wow, go troll somewhere else, k, thx.

now back on topic and some proof as to why it's 8.1 i own 24 games for the 360, not including arcade games. fact of the matter is, 360 owners enjoy their 360. if there's a game that's on the ps3 and 360, i'll get it for the 360, it's a simple choice. and yes, i have a ps3 and wii. the 360 is the only console that gets any playtime.

The guy made a valid on topic comment. just because it is not your view doesn't make him a troll.

Hi to everyone.

Please chill out, we are all here because we like our xbox xD! wink.gif

Even if the Software sales are high, PS3 & Wii have very good numbers, it's tru that 8 is a lot more than 5, but that doesn't mean that the wii and ps3 have bad numbers.

PS: I wan't to add that a lot of Xbox 360 games are in the top charts, but PS3 & Wii are too.

Competition is good to everyone.

It is probably actually higher then 8.1 because so many people like myself have bought multiple xboxs. I think the reason is Xbox 360s in my opinion have more must-own titles because it has been out a while longer. These include titles like Gears of War, Fable, Mass Effect, and of course Halo. Another good reason is because a lot of the timed exclusives were on the xbox first so people that wanted them bought them for the xbox when they came out and never bothered with the ps3 versions. These include games like Bioshock and I think Assassin's Creed (I dont remember if that was on the xbox first or same time though).

Well I have about 50 games and I have about 5-6 from a used bin. Are those taken into account?

It is simple. The experience on the 360 is simply better hence dual owners are buying 360 and leaving the PS3 to collect dust.(Me included) PSN has a long ways to go to be competitive with Xbox Live. Not to mention that you are grossly wrong about the 360 not having any good exclusives. Gears of War and Halo 3 are 2 VERY big ones. You can bash on Halo 3 all you want, but the simple fact is there is nothing better than getting a couple of buddies over and playing a few matches on Xbox Live.(Which bringing somebody online with you seems to be a sadly absent feature from most games) Gears of War speaks for itself. Fable 2 is amazing. But in reality the exclusives are only a small factor. Xbox Live is the real driving factor. Don't even get me started on the PS3/2/1's POS controller.

yada yada ya...

this is generally pointless. there are many ways of interpreting these stats that have not been addressed and therefore bigger might not actually mean better.

for instance it does not address whether gamers are satisfied. this may lead a 360 owner to buy more games in order to fill the void that wii and ps3 games can do in fewer numbers.

on the other hand it could mean as the person above suggested (although with bias) that the 360 offers a better gaming experience.

also correct me if I am wrong the 360 was the first out...and has more games than the other two...more sequels more expansions...which i suppose also count towards the ratio aswell

basically what i am saying is that a higher ratio without being placed in some other context does not necessarily mean that the 360 is "shooting ahead".
