Portal: Still Alive breaks XBLA size record
Posted by XanTium | October 23 12:54 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From destructoid.com:
[QUOTE]
When we recommended last week that "you have a fair amount of space on your hard drive, say, 629 megs," for this week's Xbox LIVE Arcade title, Portal: Still Alive, we weren't kidding.

Surprise! Portal: Still Alive in available on Xbox LIVE today and it weights in at -- you guessed it -- 629 megs. If your hard drive is full or you don't have one at all, don't say we didn't warn you; this officially makes Portal Still Alive the biggest Xbox LIVE Arcade game to date, breaking the current XBLA size-cap of 350 MB.

i don't understand why they have size caps for downloadable games, when demos are often >1gb!

seems like quite an absurd size for a live arcade game but then again i don't know much about this title.

regardless, releasing a title of that size for download will prevent many from buying that game - but the publicity on the size issue may help push sales as well...interesting

Which makes this the first (?) Xbox Live Arcade game not playable on a default Xbox 360 Arcade console.

(First? If the old cap was 350MB, and the Arcade comes with a 256MB card, was there something bigger already?)

629mb? The cake will be worth every "byte"!! Too bad we cant pay 300points to get the extra maps if we already own the Orange Box.

even though its on the live arcade i would hardly call it an "arcade game"

this title has more play then some full 60$ games biggrin.gif

I find the price too stiff, Portal is a quite short game, whereas for the same price of 1200 MS points you can get an Xbox original like Fable, which has a huge replay value and will keep you busy far longer than Portal.

well because even with a 512mb memory card portal still alive would not fit into it u NEED a hard drive for it

by the way i think its a pretty damn good game for an arcade feels more like a demo than a arcade game

i was surprised by the size of Portal when i downloaded it last night. but, i remembered that MS is now offering cheap hard drives for all core/arcade users and that NXE is coming out soon. I think almost everyone will have a hard drive by the end of the year and we'll see the size limit be increased or completely removed by spring 09. if people don't get a hard drive it'll just kind of be like, "well, you can play all of these great games if you had extra storage".

who needs a download cap ? anyway, the price does seem a little stiff.
