Netflix to Stream Movies and TV shows to Xbox 360 in High Definition

[QUOTE]
I have another super secret cool cat to let out of the bag. Netflix streaming to the Xbox 360 is going to have high definition HD content offered if you have the bandwidth. This is not a rumor it is a fact and it is going to be a part of the NXE on day one. I have this on pretty darn good authority.

Microsoft is not going to talk about it now and Netflix is not going to talk about it for two weeks or so but when the New Xbox Experience or NXE ships on November 19th there is going to be high definition content from Netflix available as a part of the video movie streaming offering. I don't know what movies or TV shows is going to be available in HD but since Netflix has a deal with CBS and Disney I would guess that those are probably going to be some of the first stuff out the door.

When you sign up for Netflix on the Xbox they give you a four digit code that you then type in to the Netflix website on a PC and the two are then synced. Also the video quality looks a lot better on the Xbox 360 than Netflix streaming on a computer but it is all dependant on the speed of your net connection to the Xbox. Since the 360 has graphics power and CPU power to spare it can handle streaming HD video. I don't know what resolution of HD they are going to offer. It also remembers what point you were last at in a movie or show and you can change your instant playlist on the Xbox 360 or your PC in real time.

Streaming HD video is no different then watching HD video from HDD or disk, in terms of GPU or CPU cycles (as far as i know).

You gotta love the hyperbole.

Yeah, generally if it has the power to play, then it has the power to stream....
However, it won't be HD.....People like to throw that term around....I wouldn't bet it would look any better than dvd. Oh, and if you use comcast....remember that 250GB monthly cap!

This sounds like misleading hype. Netflix has promised eventual HD streaming to ALL customers for a while now. It's not going to be exclusive on the Xbox 360. NF would have a difficult time explaining that to all the people who bought the Roku box or the Netflix-enabled LG Blu-ray player.

I would. The current Netflix streaming is almost as good as DVD quality if you get the 2200kbps stream.

Pfft, If you're Australian don't forget about your 12GB on-peak cap (Or if you feel like staying up after midnight you can use your 24GB cap!) - All for the generous price of $80. Or, if you signed up within the last year, you can have your uploads counted as well for some reason!

Trust me, those comcast users haven't got it bad - yet.

Maybe services like this will force ISP's to invest in extra central pipes so everyone can download what they want without capping download limits??????????

I don't think there is an equivalent to Netflix for the International audience. Don't blame Microsoft for that.

Anyone know how much Netflix is per month?

And I wonder if there HD would be like the HDTV.XviD Rips quality? I'd hope it would be better then the crappy quality Mediacom gives us.

There might not be Netflix outside the US but there are many similar alternatives in other countries. Microsoft is making a big song and dance about Netflix but seem to forget the majority of their paying customers won't have access to it. It's pretty irritating to keep hearing about a feature you'll basically be paying for but not able to use. It wouldn't be so bad if Microsoft had put some effort into providing an alternative for other countries but it seems they could care less.

You know, I'm sick to death of hearing about all this US-centric services and paying a "global" Live subscription. F*ck you MS.. I pay as much as the next guy and get sweet F.A. If Live is to be really "global" and you want to crow the global sign-on, then make parity! If the future of XBL is home entertainment - then even more so!

That said, My #1 focus is games... as long as I have gaming parity... I'm a sucker... you b*stards!

Well, video quality is always a matter of opinion....with bluray movies you're talking about a bitrate of around 20Mb/s and on up to 35Mb/s...Can't give you any numbers on 720p as I've always preferred 1080i/p. Now with compression and different codecs, I've seen bitrates under 9Mb/s that I've thought was ok...
There are also those that are of the opinion that HD is not just the video but the audio as well....And I seriously doubt they'd have HD audio in the stream...
It's like gamespot HD....It's not really HD....It's better than their regular stuff...But that doesn't make something HD....

@Lifter
Is that per month?! Ouch!

I currently have nexflix and they're "PLAY NOW" selection sucks, I get the movies in the mail. ALL THIS MISLEADING about nexflix being included w/an update and then u have to have a gold sub........
w/the update on the other system you can know watch Hulu.
I have a PS3 and 360 and other then the 360 exlusive games I enjoy the PS3 alittle bit more.
And to clarify it's not the gold sub price it' the misleading, but please don't get me wrong I'm wait for Gears Of War2
