Xbox handheld: only available in dreamland says Microsoft
Posted by XanTium | November 3 17:25 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From five.tv:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft has gunned down gossip suggesting an Xbox handheld is in the works, crushing gamers' dreams everywhere in the process.

UK Xbox boss, Stephen McGill, who denied the juicy rumour certainly had his work cut out having earlier denied a brand new Xbox console was in the offing.

The latest crushing blow was delivered in typically, er crushing style. "No, we're not looking to do a handheld gaming device." He said. Can't get any more empathic than that.

They are struggling with the Zune, and with the 360 hardware problems, I'm not sure they want to stick their hand into that fire again.
If they managed to pull of a slimline 360, then perhaps a handheld could be in the works, but they have struggled to make the 360 any more svelte or quiet, I can't see them bothering with the competitive handheld space, outside of a Zune with better graphics.

The zune is by no means struggling... it just isn't selling like the ipod... nothing is selling like the ipod. Ever since apple teamed up with hp on the original ipod they have dominated the market. This is the same reason MS needs to stay out of the hand held market. Nintendo runs that, and no one is going to change it.

It makes you wonder though, in a time when Sony was once touted as the best in portable media (cassette tape & compact disc) how in the world did apple end up on top? Some companies just make stupid mistakes, others are too short sighted to see what they are doing to themselves. Not everyone can have 20 yr vision like at&t i suppose.

I use my DS like twice a year, wish I could use it more but I just get drawn back to Console or PC gaming, I know I could use it for all the commuting I do but I get travel sick when I look down (reading things etc) so I don't use it. So I'm not really bothered if ms makes a handheld or not.
