My friend brought over his broken xbox the dvd rom drive needs to be replaced so I could use some information on what to do. The DVD rom drive is a Hitachi LG model GDR-8050L
Do I need to find this exact DVD drive to replace it or can I use another model?
What other things must I do?
Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time!

Xbox Version: v1.4
360 version: v4.0 (jasper)
You can replace it with any Xbox1 DVD drive. Just plug the replacement drive in - simple as that!

Sorry that I am so naive but when you mean by replacing it with any Xbox drive does that include even drives by another name and model number?
I have been searching the web for a hit butachi lg with the same model number without luck..

Yes. As long as it's a genuine Xbox 1 DVD drive it will work regardless of manufacturer.
