Rumor: MS Rep - Fall update will be big trouble
Posted by XanTium | November 11 12:31 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamingconfidential.blogspot.com:
[QUOTE]
A trusted source working as a customer service rep for Microsoft has revealed that there will be some bad drama when the Xbox 360's Fall update hits on November 19th. He says the update could bring the dreaded "three red lights of death" issue roaring back to life.

The rep said that there has always been an influx of calls from owners of bricked Xbox 360s after every major Xbox 360 software update. Most of the complaints come from owners of launch consoles.

"The slick move by Microsoft here is that it's releasing the update on the 19th, just a couple of days after the extended warranty period for launch Xbox 360s end. The owners of these units are headed for some pretty tense times in the weeks to come,"" he said.

I don't doubt that M$ would do something like this one bit. Even if it isn't true, I wouldn't put it past them.

Very plausible considering the release date of NXE. MS isn't known for it's proper ethics either.

I got the RROD on my second 360 about a month ago. Luckily it's now fairly easy to fix.

Yeah I don't believe this article either, the RROD and live updates are generally too different issues. We've heard from people who left MS that the RROD was a problem caused by in propper cooling design. There are issues with dashboard updates not taking properly and fragging the xbox internals but these are a separate issue to the RROD which plagued launch consoles.
I'd say this article is complete BS, or the support operator is not all that informed as to what caused the original launch console RROD issues.

so, he went to India and talked to a M$ customer service rep? or did he just call in and chatted. TOTAL BS, and if they were hoping that this update would brick boxes, you'd think they'd wait til later in the fall...total crap

I fixed a RROD system about 2 months ago and it was running, then I updated the system with that new update through the usb and 5 minutes later it went RROD.

all you have to do is look at what causes the 3 red lights. while some people claimed their 360 has red lighted after a dashboard update, it is just purely coincidence. 3 red lights is hardware related. if it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to fix it by making hardware related changes. also, before people start claiming that NXE will 'stress' the system more, etc. just stop before you even start.

But software can make hardware opererate differently, a new dash update can make the gpu work harder. You can overclock with software. It is possible that it is software related. Software can push a already bad design over its thresh hold and bam!; you got yourself RROD. Unless M$ is donig it on purpose to get rid of all the earlier systems, or force people to buy more systems. Thats what they do when they drop a Bann-Hammer.

I consider this a load of bollocks.
if it's a reliable source, why isn't there a name or just an alias?
just typical doomsaying, when 2000 came everybody thought the supposed millenium bug would cause a global breakdown of all electrical devices, we're 2008 now, nobody's wearing all-in silver jumpsuits and a computer with internet connection has become more of a necessity rather than luxury in our modern society.

a costumer sales representative eh? they didn't speak to one of those guys who speak like Apu and basically give replies that have been printed on a sheet for them?
