So I'm getting the RROD now. I've had the system for about a year and a half, so it's technically "out of warranty" although the RROD repair is supposed to be for 3 years. However, I can't seem to find the receipt anywhere. Uh oh! What do I do?

You dont need a receipt. You just need to register the console on http://support.xbox.com then after it is registered select request a repair..... fill out the info and you're done.

Cool. I should also mention that the system DOES work once in a while, but most of the time, I get the 3 rings, or the system just locks up several minutes after turning it on. Should I be expecting a hassle from MS?

No. They wont even test it. Just tell them you have the 3rrod and once they verify that your console has not been open they will send you a refurbished one.
