Will the Xbox 360's lead over the PS3 last?
Posted by XanTium | November 27 00:50 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From seattlepi.nwsource.com:
[QUOTE]
For two months in a row now, the Xbox 360 has solidly outsold the PlayStation 3. But in an interview last week, a PlayStation executive said that the Xbox 360's rise was a "blip" attributable to its September price cut and that the consoles would be neck and neck during the holidays.
"We're going to see a very tight race this holiday because of our gaming lineup," said John Koller, Sony's director of hardware marketing. "We're very bullish on holiday sales."

So far this year, sales of the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are essentially tied, with each console maker selling about 2.4 million units. Prior to the price cut, though, the PS3 had the lead, with 2 million unit sales through August to the Xbox 360's 1.7 million.
"You are going to see all consoles do well seasonally," Koller said. "Going into next year that's when proof is going to be."

yeah... this holiday is going to be the end of xbox 360's 3 year long blip laugh.gif

"bullish" and PS3 don't belong in the same sentence unless Sony is planning some massive price cuts or has an unstoppable line up exclusives...

To be honest I couldn't think of what the PS3 had coming out the rest of the year... I mean Their last biggest release was Resistance 2... I know this because there's a giant pile of unsold Collector's Editions sitting on the counter at my local GameStop... I'm guessing it didn't sell too well.

I decided to pop over to Gamestop.com to see what's on the release list for the rest of the year...

The _ONLY_ PS3 exclusive that they have listed as coming out at all before the new year was SingStar ABBA Edition

I'm not even kidding... I couldn't make something up that good if I tried.

as for xplat games all they have are tired franchise sequels that wont do much for anyone... Sonic, Destroy All Humans, and Prince of Persia...

I don't see any of that as ever, even in the most stretched definition of the word being representative of the term "bullish".

Granted the 360 doesn't have much coming out either... but they did just get a price cut and they do have some decent bundles... and looking at what was released over the last week 360 got both Left 4 Dead (a Valve Exclusive) and Last Reminent (A Square-Enix Exclusive)....

the sad reality is that now that walmart is selling blu-Ray players for $150 you can get a 360 and a BR player for less than a PS3, so their "value" proposition doesn't even hold much weight anymore.

I agree for the most part, but the PS3 is still a damn good Blu-ray player. That's why I bought it (after getting the Sony Visa $100 off). Some of those bargain blu-ray players, such as the Samsung, doesn't even output anything greater than stereo sound, which is ridiculous.

I don't think it's even going to be close given the killer 360 BF deals.

How do you manage that TS. It's not released until tomorrow. Bit early to be saying it's not selling a day before release

Isn't that just here in the UK? Games are usually released on a tuesday in the US and Canada.

The only way i can see the PS3 catch up with the 360 is if 1) a price cut, 2) Need to release alot more games, 3) A way to play copied games, These 3 things happen and it will boom in sales.

Didn't the game come out when gears 2 did? I remember sitting in line at meijer waiting for GOW2 and some kids talking about it. They had it for sale than?

Maybe they are just selling games early?

Resistance 2 came out on November the 4th in the US and Canada and November the 28th for Europe.

With the 360 selling in most shops for £129 bundled with a couple of good games and a controller or a new release game I don't see the PS3 having much chance at it's current price point and its lack of exclusives.

I really think the Sony exec should look up the definition of "blip".

The only time the ps3 has managed to outsell the 360 in North America was those 2 months MGS4 came out and maybe one month prior to that in its entire life cycle so far, and by no land slide numbers either in those months. What would you call that?

Yea alot of people are buying the PS3 but as a Blu-ray player!! They want to compare them as gaming systems they need to look at the number of games each customer buys with the system. The 360 is dominating the market. Most people that have the Wii play mainly Wii sports. I have both and that is when you look at exclusives. 360 versions of the game are way better than the Wii version. The PS3 versions of games are most times the same as the 360 ver.

Sony should release a PS3 without the Blu-ray and sell it for $199. I may than consider it but they need to get alot more quality exclusives to justify $400 pricetag.

Impossible, due to all PS-games are on BRDiscs wink.gif

Buying a PS3 only for BluRay-Playback is raping the ecosystem. The consoles should not be used for movie-playback due their much to high power requirement.

Buy Standalone-Players and an Xbox360 and you'll be happy biggrin.gif
