when i play a video and press pause, i take a screenshot with the left stick button, but the screenshot has the gui in it. is there a way to hide the gui so i can take a clean screenshot?

Yes, by pressing White (or Black can't remember) button you bring up and bring down the video details window, and by pressing start you do it for the menu (I think it is your GUI). Play with those commands and you'll manage to clean away the screen, while being paused in a video.

Don't pause to take a screenshot. Just start taking screenshots while the vid is playing at the point of the video you want to capture.
