Xbox 360 Hits 8m In Europe News
Posted by XanTium | January 5 16:19 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From totalvideogames.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft has today confirmed that lifetime sales of the Xbox 360 across the EMEA region (that's Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) have topped eight million units, and that Christmas 2008 was the most successful in the console's history,

According to data from Chart Track, the Xbox 360 was the fastest growing console of 2008, doubling its quarterly performance over the same period in 2007, and extending its lead over the PlayStation 3 in the territory to one million units. However, despite a lead of six zeros the figure doesn't seem particularly impressive, given the Xbox 360's head-start over its Sony rival. We guess that price drop in 2008 really was essential!

8 million isn't really that good when you consider all the countries that are included.

It comes down to name Sony in Europe for many electrical products is one of them names even if the product is poor people will get it because it's Sony whereas with 360 it has Microsoft attached to it which is going against it.

I hear all the time people that have no idea about a product but because it has a curtain name they go for it or spread rumours about it being poor, I have heard many staff in shops doing this trying to put people off 360 because of the rrod issues.

The whole of your post is contradictory.
If you keep this in a games console theme.
The PS3 is not a poor product. It has crap marketing and crap back up from Sony who have not made some crucial moves in it's development.
As for your staff in shops trying to put people off buying the 360 in Europe. It's the biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard. If they did it would actually be justified, because...reality check....the 360 is a poor product. The games , the marketing and the support system of XBL etc is fantastic. The actual product is poor.
If you take this in broader terms than just consoles...another reality check for you. Consumers in Europe do not fill their homes with Sony stuff. people realise they have to pay more for Sony equipment and don't see any value in paying top price for what in a lot of cases is not worth the extra money.
MS is a software comapny and people in europe still buy their software over most other companies software.
You should already know all this as you are in the UK.

Depends, the results are impressive if Europe used to be Sony-Land and lost it's lead over it's rival in only one generation, xbox1 being nowhere near the competition previous gen. That's a very big turnaround.

If someone told you in the PS2 days Xbox2 would be beating PS3 would you believe them? no. lol.

Ok another Chancer has to be right post

How can you state its rubbish shops trying to put people of purchasing a 360 you wasn't there on numerous occasions myself I have gone in to Game, Gamestation even PC World and heard the staff stating loads of negative information to get the customer to buy a Wii or PS3.

People in Europe are very brand minded and will pay the high price for a name sorry but do you have any friend or go out much if so you would see this many people will go for a brand even if they do not know it's full details.

Regarding MS software company side people you could say have been forced to go for Windows almost all new PC's come with it and have for many years it's only competition was really Mac OSX which did not work on a standard PC and now Linux which is on some new net books which isn't compatible with all PC's.

Not really an "I have to be right"
More like another one of your ill thought anti Sony posts based on here say or your friends trends.
Lets follow your style of argument shall we..... Me and 5 friends have overheard sales people in Game and PC World saying buy a 360 instead of that overpriced PS3. Now you reply with Me and 6 friends...blah blah.
Posting has sod all to do with right and wrong, it's opinion. If my opinion counters yours, I will post it. I will be forthright and don't give a shit if you don't like it. I respect people who can put up a good counter argument and battle, even if I don't agree with their thoughts... so please do me a favour and drop the "Chancer has to be right crap". It's not a calculation or a problem with a set answer, it's a point of view on a forum. I do this to pass some time. Usually someone is up for a battle of opinion.

Lets see. I have ASC service account status for most manufacturers and repair warranty Electronics goods for them. I meet on average 50 people a week who all see me for one thing, their home electronics kit. I am aware what all these people purchase and even chat on why they picked the particular brand etc.
You base this assumption on your friends?? People do not choose Sony over a cheaper price. If they did how come as soon as the price cut hit the 360 it pissed on the PS3 in Europe for sales?
Anyone who pays out for something without even knowing what it is or does properly has too much money and is a Moron.

If people in Europe were as anti MS as you say they would use an alternative and a cheaper one is linux. I haven't found a PC yet that I can't install it on.
