Hi,

I've got a Hitachi 47DH (launch console) thats playing up, i think its a weak laser.

I have a space 59 version drive hanging about and was wondering if i can swap them over?

Its flashed with ixtreme anyway so surely there is no physical difference as its only difference is the ROM version?

ixtreme will copy the key back over aswel, as i understand it.

Can the xbox and/or LIVE detect difference?

Will it even work (even if its not allowed online)?

sorry ive just realised ive posted in the wrong forum.

can a mod please move?

Just take the Logic board out of the v47 and put it in the v59 and you're done.

Follow the Laser replacement tutorial for the Hitachi, it shows how to remove the Logic board before the laser is replaced, so just go that far on each drive and then install the original Logic board in the new drive.

Any version Hitachi Logic board can be swapped into any version Hitachi chassis, they're all the same mechanically, the only difference is the v78/v79 boards are a tiny bit thicker, so it may not fit perfectly into a v59 or lower chassis, but it still fits and will work fine in them, they all have the same connections.

Another thing to look for with the Hitachi drive is the Spindle motor, it can get all gunked up and cause disc reading issues as it's not spinning the disc fast enough. This can be resolved by removing the motor and cleaning/relubricating it and needs to be done properly as the screws that hold it in place also adjust the tilt/angle of the disc and if those get all messed up it's not going to read the disc when the Spindle motor is reinstalled.

yeah well the problem in the first place is that my drive will read original games and no backups or selected dvds.

There are certain dvd's like bad santa that read fine every time, but other dvds just no, no matter how many times i try.

and it is flashed properly (regarding not being able to play backups)

does this sound like a weak laser to you guys?

Just replace the Laser from the new drive into the old one then or still just swap boards, either way it really ends up being the same thing when it's all done.

@ Danny-boy - A little clarification on my previous Hitachi board swapping reply. You still need the key from the original drive if ya plan to use a whole new board/drive, but if ya just want to swap your Hitachi board into another drive then it'll fit right in any of the Hitachi chassis.
