Xbox Live Likely Receiving Next Big Update At Christmas
Posted by XanTium | January 13 21:29 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From 1up.com:
[QUOTE]
Speaking with Eurogamer, Microsoft director of product management Aaron Greenberg said that they haven't specifically committed to doing just a spring and fall update. Instead, it looks like they'll be delivering smaller updates throughout the year.

For now, the team is focusing on Primetime, which will be ready to go in the spring. After that, Greenberg suggested that "for holiday perhaps, we'll do something big. But exactly how that will work remains to be seen."

I just wish they only did seasonal updates for new features, but released fixes more often.
cause the HDMI issue along with other software issues that surfaced after the NXE release need to be fixed ASAP, people don't want to wait until spring for an issue that was caused in november.

I don't have the issue, but those who do have that issue have my sympathy.
MS releases major OS bugfixes outside of their patch tuesdays, they should to the same for the xbox.

You know, the thing I love about Microsoft is how their software is constantly evolving. Looking at it from a closed hardware closed software perspective, Microsoft is doing pretty well (of course there are hiccups). They have continuously supported software with updates and new features with their 360 and Zune platform, and not just bug fixes.

I don't have a Ps3 so I'm not sure how sony is handling that department but from the looks of it, it just seems like they have new apps (such as home) and mostly the new latest features are bitten off from the 360(please correct me if I'm wrong)

anyone else pissed that the big fall update essentially turned all xbox's into an ad supported operating system? when you pay for live you should be able to opt out of ad's... other than the party chat, nothing else has improved, just gotten worse. especially navigation.

Am I the only one who has seen less adds? All I see them on after the update is the spotlight section and that's more for events and stuff like that.

old dash had ads from 3rd parties in it too.
the marketplace is more prominent, I'll give you that, but the 3rd party ads remain confined to only 1 section, spotlight.

XBL has not increased in price in years even with inflation and the increased demand on the servers from new members. if you would like to pay more for a service without ads, then i wish you had the option. as for me, since XBL is still only around $3.50 per month with the 12+1 month cards, they can continue to use un-obtrusive ads all they wish...sometimes i even find something i am interested in...

increased demand on the servers from new members.

those new members are also paying live fees, which in turn means more money for ms to pay for servers.

that being said, the ads don't bother me since they are all confined to 1 channel, and most (if not all) of them are actually 360 related. they also put ads for free content in there from time to time.
