There seems to be alot of responses to the "why i cant use an alternative chip" question and the response is always a "quirk" or "bug" in the SST49LF020 chip. Can someone explain this bug in a technical manner? Im interested in building a 'cheap mod' and will construct a CPLD to interface if needed.

Actually, I thought of a quick and easy way to "find" these features, I noticed the SST49LF020[A] does not work with the xbox, and theres this article, (www.sst.com/downloads/app_note/S72045.pdf).
Can someone confirm that the reason the A model does not work is because the System Memory Mapping redefinition? i.e. the SST49LF020A ignores LPC cycles outside of the new defined range?

Sorry I cannot give you the technical reasons anymore for why that chip doesn't work. I am sure you could build your own cheapmod for ~$5, but since you can buy a doux2 for ~$11-13, it's hardly worth the effort anymore.
