> How Do I Know If My New Motherboard Has A Via Vt6421a Chipset?

Hey guys, odd question. My 2nd Syba card died (the one with the VIA VT6421A SATA chipset) and I'm rebuilding a new PC anyway. I figured since I don't really care about the specs on it, I can buy one with the VIA VT6421A chipset already on it, rather than rely on a PCI card that is flaky anyway. How would I know this before buying one? It doesn't exactly list this information in the specs page of a motherboard.

If I do go this route and mod an XBox with it, is it a bad idea to have the hard drive plugged into the SATA port? I would assume so, so I can just find a motherboard with IDE and use the hard drive there. Just making sure.

Thanks!

No one? I'm sitting here on Newegg waiting to buy a motherboard, I'd just rather buy one with the correct chipset on it if I'm buying one anyway.

How the Hell did you kill a PCI SATA card? I've been using a Syba VIA card for 3 years, constantly in and out of my PC...it works perfectly...anyway, I don't think you'll find a motherboard with that chipset in it, as it's old, and it's only available on a PCI card, at least from what I gather. Get a motherboard with an nForce chipset, or just get another PCI card and take better care of it.

The NForce chipsets work with all 360 drives and flashing methods (including DOS)? If that's the case I'll do that.

I don't know, this is my second one. Two different PCs the drivers are installed but it said hardware error (yellow exclamation point) and even though I repeatedly install the proper drivers, it never installs properly. This is on 2 different machines, both with clean XP installs. And it used to work fine so I know it's not just me.

You don't need to install any drivers for the VIA card. In fact installed drivers may cause some trouble.

No new motherboards come with the vt6421a chipset, because it's only SATA-1 spec.

Why bother wasting time on finding a mobo with that chipset?
Like i said, it's only SATA-1, so it's old, hard to find used even.

Just buy a $15 pci card.

Ok, thanks, but this is the first I'm hearing that the $15 Syba PCI card does not need drivers. What if you're doing a Hitachi drive in Windows XP? Won't you most certainly need drivers then? My computer keeps asking for drivers when the card is installed.

Really? With the Syba card? So what do you do, just ignore it when it tries to install drivers?
