Here are some pics of a little project I completed over the week end, but first I need to give props for some awesome tuts that I used to help do this. First to RDC for the crystal clear pics of power sources, popballz and bong420 for the externalization of the HDD, and JaredC01 for the pinouts of video and audio.

The pics are not the best quality but they will do.

I would have liked to make the screen flush with all the controls coming out of the case, but the internals of the screen would not fit with the drive still in the unit and I really did not want to take it out.

The screen is obviously not HD, hopefully next time I will get my hands on a HD one.
Oh there is also a headphone jack on the back, and a switch to make the video output go back to HD for regualr use.

I've had a few of my customers ask me to make something like this for them. I have the pinouts and everything but how do you connect them? Do you just take off the metal housing off the av connector and connect the wires from there?

That was the only thing I never got was how to connect the wires up to the av unit. I thought that if you did that then you would lose the ability to see it on an actual tv...

Nice. Well done. I was thinking about using a screen from a portable dvd player.

The av unit I used has 2 video inputs on it so what I did was solder wires on to the bottom of the mobo for the composite out and then put a RCA connector on it so that it plugs into the AV unit. There is also a set of pinouts for the switch that changes the unit from HD to standard, so you can just wire up your own HD switch too. Even with the switch turned to regular you can still plug in a 360 video cable and have output to a regular TV. If you were going to use an AV unit that does not have video inputs, then it will be a lot more difficult to do.

That would work as long as you can figure out where to connect the video-in to the controller board for the screen, which can be difficult unless it has a video input already on it.

Thats a very cool mod. I was thinking about that idea yesterday. I've yet to get inside my case though (tool on the way) so I haven't seen how much space there is. Does anyone think there'd be space to fit a caseless display behind a window thus having it built in. I'll prob never do it though.

Big up your mod dude. I like the colours 2.

Thanks man. Portable DVD players have really slim components in them, so you could probably fit one in there pretty easily. I have a portable DVD player that I was going to use, that would have fit inside, but I could not figure out where to connect the video for it.

It is a Rocketfish 2.5 external enclosure. It is a USB enclosure so be prepared to use the dremel. It is like $50 unless you know someone who works at best buy. I work for the Geek Squad so my discount is great.
