So basically my question to you is, my fellow XSers, fellow Xbox electricians... what do you think about when or if the poles on earth shift after the sun's poles shift? An electrical wipe.. right. But how would we fix it? Is it a simple swap of + and - or am I missing something here?

Ideas? Thoughts? Flames?

Anything.

the solar pole reversal doesnt effect the earths poles, in fact the sun flips every 11 years, around the solar maximum, while this can cause problems with satellite communications its something we've lived with throughout the space age

the earths poles will also shift someday, but not in 2012, geomagnetic pole reversal is much less predictable, at the current rate of change in the earths magnetic field the poles will reverse sometime between the year 3000 and the year 4000

what effect this will have on our electronics is entirely unknown, but as a species it is unlikely to effect us, as human ancestors survived several pole reversals in the last few million years

heres an interesting article dealing with the last solar pole reversal, in 2001

To OP

The thing that nasa has been researching is another 1859 "Carrington" sized solar flare. That could damage substations around the world in the northern hemisphere, Knocking out power for a matter of months and possibly a year in some areas, The suns activity is supposed to peak in 2013(not a typo).

Vader you are right the sun does go thru cycles. In the middle ages we had a little ice age. Before it we had a 100 year warming period where it was so warm they were growing wine grapes in England. Right now there is warming on venus. That is not to say that we shuldn't cut down on polution and be come more energy efficient and be less reliant on oil from countries who hate us. The Strait of Hormuz 40 to 60 percent of worlds oil gets shipped thru there. When Israel attacks Iran it will be blockaded by Iran. Shrinking the supply of oil for sale sending oil prices and in turn petrol / gas prices sky high. Similar to the 70s. But the sun goes thru both long and short cycles. These are out of our control.
