Inferior hardware + a majority of craptastic games = Higher sales... i'll never understand the stupidity of the masses.
Small quiet unit, games aimed at a broader market base (5-105 yr olds) , perception of family friendly gaming (i.e. perceived as safe to buy for your 8 year old except for a very few games), looks more 'social' than the others when gameplay is happening.
We have a 360 and a Wii and my kid really only enjoys the games on the wii, even the 'acceptable' titles on the 360 just don't hold her attention, but she will play animal crossing or order-up or super-paper-mario for hours, and a lot of the games are just plain more fun. I enjoy dipping into quite a few wii games and never really thought I'd like it, but they are great for a half hour gaming session when yr life is too busy to sit down for a 4-8hr play. I can also play most of the games with her at the same time and she really enjoys that, her friends bring their DS's over and they link them up wirelessly to visit each other on animal crossing and so on. It is a fun little unit and has broader appeal than the hardcore-ish gamer. It has been selling too strong for too long to be considered a fad, and buying one doesn't make you stupid, it is just a different experience that you can't get on the PS3 or 360.
I want a PS3 for half a dozen exclusive games and four or five downloadable ones, but am waiting like every other chump for a price drop.
